I'm spreading the word. This is from A Free Writer in Mosul, a city about which I haven't heard our media speak much this Election Day:
Election day in Mosul, the third largest city in the north of the country, where there is a mixed Sunni and Shi'at , and Kurdish population and where the insurgency has been strong in recent months. voting stations were busy and it's gone very well, much better than expected.Mosul's mayor was overcome with emotion by the turnout of voters at City centers, where he shaked hands with many people who are celebrating their first time in life of real Democracy.
It is incredible. This is a vote for the future, for our children, for the rule of law, for humanity.
No one ever expected that Iraqi's will be able to modify their only way of living that they knew it the past.
One man said "We want to be like other Iraqis, we don't want to always be in opposition".
Another man insisted on coming to voting center but on a stretch, he was healing from a surgery.
An other lady gave her birth suddenly , because of the tension , in a school modified to be a voting center.
Time for election was over but still thousands of Mosul citizens waiting their turn , asking the mayor authority to extend voting time after 5 PM. but it was ipossible.
Even children came with their parents to see this strange action.
In one word, it was a big victory, and Iraqis proved that they can defeat terrorism in the 30 Th of Jan, 2005.
NOTHING I write can touch this stuff.
[I loved that finger, Matt. It spoke volumes!]
Thanks for spreading the word. This is an Iraqi blogger I hadn't visited before.
Spirit of America's program on C-SPAN this afternoon had a caller from Mosul who claimed that the mayor told him they had an 80% turnout. After what those poor people have dealt with recently, they are truly courageous!

What a great day! I have not even checked the mainstream media today to see how many things they can find wrong with this. Look for the usual suspects on the nutso left to continue their whining. Congratulations Iraq!
