John McCain (R-Arizona) is off to Iraq with Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-New York).
The AP story I link mentions that he doesn't trust Don Rumsfeld.
Also heading to the fledgling Democracy will be McCain's buddy Russ Feingold (D-Wisconsin), GOP Mod Squadder Susie Collins, (R-Maine), former House impeachment manager Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina).
McCain and Clinton have often challenged the Pentagon's planning and management of the Iraq effort, particularly once major combat ended.
I assume they'll label this a Fact Finding Mission, as all but Feingold sit on the Senate's Armed Services committee. Russ, though, could be eyeing a Presidential run in 2008. Unless it become obvious to her that she cannot win, Clinton will probably run. McCain's McCain.
Even things look to be going well, expect some good words from Hillary upon her return.
I don't trust McCain. I feel he'll talk out of school and give Hillary (alias "Chubby") some dirt to use on President Bush....
And Chubby will give McCain some tips on how to be even more of a backstabber.

I could care less about these people going there for 'fact-finding.' I probably know more facts about what is going on in Iraq by keeing up with mil-blogs such as Blackfive and with others such as Chrenkoff and Iraq the Model.
These people are not going there for fact finding, they are going there to find things to back up their demented and negative view of things in Iraq. If 90% of Iraq was a success and 10% was still trouble, they will be gathering info on that 10% so they can come back and report negative news. It's as simple as that.
I'm much more interested in hearing back from Rush Limbaugh on his week-long trip to Afghanistan.

I think you may be incorrect as to what they are there for and what they intend. It is obvious to everyone, including the likes of the Hildebeast and John "the Knife" McCain, that Iraq is a success and will move steadily down the path to full democratic self-rule. Given that common knowledge, it is no longer politically prudent to badmouth Iraq. Since they have the public image of having been nattering nabobs of negativism on the whole subject for quite some time, how to turn it into a ploy to polish their images?
First, travel to Iraq. Objective - to impress the American public that they really are concerned about the war and the troops and the Iraqis and their shot at freedom even though they've been duplicitous on these issues up to this point.
Call it a fact-finding mission so people will believe you haven't already written off the effort as a failure and blamed the President for it. Once they find a few facts (always readily available without all the travel, but ignored before), release new profound pronouncements of victory and support for the Iraqis.
Now the time has come for the phonies to follow these steps. Watch for more of the formerly anti-war, "we can't win" liberals and wusses to make the trip and find all new sets of "facts" and suddenly declare our victory over the insurgents. That would be a clear display of courage and determination to stand behind our troops and our President to win this war, right? Wrong.
They're all a bunch of pontificating fakes who are trying to erase public memory of their previous hate-Bush, hate-freedom, hate-war positions and their attempts to capitalize on the hard-fought and hard-won victory that our troops and our leaders in the Whitehouse and Pentagon brought about with their blood, lives, and courage. These fellow travelers are truly evil.
