Can Political Correctness Kill?

Read this heartbreaking account of how Western values of tolerance and decency enabled the September 11 attack to happen. It is about the ticket agent who gave boarding passes to Mohammed Atta and an accomplice, while restraining his impulsive reaction that something about these men was wrong. This story is made sadder by the fact that even after September 11, we are tying our hands behind our own backs with insane political correctness.

Everyone should contact their Senators and Congressmen and request they stop the insanity and allow our airlines to PROFILE the passengers!

Tell them we need to change the laws so that when the "spidersense" of a ticket counter agent goes off, he can stop the suspects from boarding without losing his job.

Recommend they use the research from Michael Smerconish's book, "Flying Blind" and make some common sense changes, because currently - NOTHING HAS CHANGED.

Smerconish explains, in detail, how political correctness will be our undoing and another 9/11 is a matter of time, unless our officials change some laws and allow airlines to PROFILE the passengers.

Airlines are currently sued if they aggressively question a Muslim/Arab male or if they question more than a couple per day, this is nuts.

My WASP neighbor just returned from a trip to Seatle and was frisked coming and going, she's 55 and doesn't look anything like Mohammed Atta. In the meantime, Arabs could have walked on by and boarded, unchallenged......

Here are some exerpts from the article about Michael Tuohey, the US Airways Ticket Counter Employee, who checked in the 2 terrorists :

MICHAEL Tuohey "stared the devil in the eyes and didn't recognize him."

Now he kicks himself for not having acted, although if he had, our government probably would've punished him for trying to take the devil down.

He thought the pair were unusual. First, they each held a $2,500 first-class, one-way ticket to Los Angeles (via Boston). "You don't see many of those."

I looked up, and asked them the standard questions. The one guy was looking at me. It sent a chill through me. Something in my stomach churned. And subconsciously, I said to myself, 'If they don't look like Arab terrorists, nothing does.' "

"Then I gave myself a mental slap. In over 34 years, I had checked in thousands of Arab travelers, and I never thought this before. I said to myself, 'That's not nice to think. They are just two Arab businessmen.' " And with that, Tuohey handed them their boarding passes.

Here's more:

As they walked through the metal detectors, out of his sight, the jackets and ties were gone. Now the two were wearing open-neck dress shirts when they went through security.

Atta and Omari arrived in Boston at 6:45 a.m., where they were joined by Satam al Suqami, Wail al Shehri and Waleed al Shehri. The five then checked in, and boarded American Airlines Flight 11 for L.A. The flight was scheduled to depart at 7:45 a.m. It actually left at 7:59. At 8:46, it hit the North Tower.

Back in Portland, Tuohey, got word of the crash.

"One of the agents from another airline said, 'Did you hear what happened in New York?'... I said, 'Oh, my God!' - and I was sorry I had judged them. I thought it was an accident."

But at 9:03 a.m., when United Airlines No. 175 hit the South Tower, Tuohey knew his first instinct had been correct.

(I recommend reading the article, it is chilling)

Of course political correctness can kill. It killed on 9/11. We are just lucky we have not had other instances since then, but the attitude about profiling is more than stupid, it is insane.

After the fuss about profiling, I wrote a tongue-in-cheek piece warning campers and hikers of dangers in the woods. They were warned to be careful of bees, and snakes, and so on. Actually, the problem in the area was that a rogue bear had been dragging people out of tents, but it was not politically correct to warn people about only one kind of animal.

A great example of how political correctness can kill is in the Ward Churchill article. In the name of political correctness, ethnic diversity, blah blah blah, we have been paying nearly $100,000 a year to have a domestic terrorist who openly despises the United States, "educating" the students at the University of Colorado at Boulder about how they need to help "get the USA off the planet" and telling them how to become terrorists. And there is objection to firing him. I want every person supporting him to sign off on that support, so we know where to go when one of his admirers takes his advice and actually kills someone.
