Dean Has Red State Blues

Looks like Dean is fulfilling his promise to waste time visiting red states... Yesterday he was in Kansas... a state that has voted Republican since 1964. He gave a speech to a Washburn University audience of 800.

"How do we expect those places to vote Democratic when we don't even show up?" Dean said during Thursday's speech.

Democratic Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, who was elected in a 2002 race marked by tensions between moderate and conservative Republicans, hadn't planned to attend any of Dean's events.

Ouch. That's pretty sad. I may not know much about Gov. Sebelius, but I imagine she needs to present herself as moderate if she wants to get reelected. Being seen in public with Dean would not have helped her at all.

Of course, this is exactly why Republicans were thrilled about Dean running the DNC... They've made their bed, now they have to lie in it.

You know, Matt, this is potentially more serious than a few Dem candidates last election cycle not wanting to be seen with JF Kerry. (Ken Salazar from Colorado and Brad Carson in Oklahoma spring first to mind.)

This is an elected female Democratic governor rejecting what is billed as the new Democratic Party, the man who is going to lead them to victory after several elections filled with humiliation.

The Democrats are in big trouble. They need another JFK -- except Kennedy himself would be rejected by his own brother and the "Democratic Wing of the Democratic Party."

Can we expect Gov. Sebelius to change parties between now and her re-election?

Dagney... I don't think this indicates that, as Seblius is pro-abort, anti-gun, and doing quite well where she is.

What this shows is that elected Democrats are alienated by the party's internal leadership; this comes at a time when they should be gathered 'round the campfire singing folksongs of unity.

For the Dems to win nationally, the are going to have to do a heck of a lot better than JF Kerry or Howard Dean.

David Corn, that smirking liberal Says on his blog:

"There are Democrats everywhere, but many of them don't say who they are anymore because the culture has said it's not socially acceptable to be a Democrat."

That's Howard Dean, new Democratic Party chief, speaking. He made that comment while in Kansas for a fundraiser. This is the defeatist talk--or dumb talk.

Looks like Corn isn't all that crazy about Dean either.
