Vice President Dick "Sherman" Cheney

Guys and gals, he's ain't gonna run:

"I'm not a candidate, don't plan to be a candidate. If nominated, I will not run. If elected, I will not serve. Is that the Shermanesque statement? I said on television someplace the other day, not only no, but hell no."

I'm a bit whistful on that; Dick Cheney is the conservative's conservative...but he doesn't want to be President.

VP Cheney is not on my good side right now after reading this story in the WA Post. It also sounds like Frist doesn't have the guts to put the Judiciary in its place either. Very disappointing. I'm probably looking at this too simplisticly, but, to me, this just looks like the GOP is withering to the uproar the Dems and media had over the comments by DeLay. Politics as usual.

If they do not do something about the runaway Judiciary, they will be losing a lot of votes come 2006 and 2008. Not necessarily lose them to Democrats, but people will be frustrated enough with them to not vote at all.

Maybe I am just impatient, but I liked the strong words of DeLay, rather than the stances taken by VP Cheney and Senator Frist. I admired Senator Frist for standing up and taking action in the Schiavo case intially, but after saying "I believe we have a fair and independent judiciary today," he has lost my support. If he honestly believes that we had a fair and independent judiciary in the Schiavo case and we have a fair and independent Judiciary as a whole today, he is clueless.

I'm tired of the GOP backing down and being political. When are we going to have more people like Senator Brownback and Majority Leader Tom DeLay stand up for what is right?

I posted about this a few weeks ago.

Michael,

Frist may be able to regain your respect as the battle over judicial nominations goes forward.

In the end, if Frist really has the Presidential ambitions people say he has, then he's going to have to take a stand. His principles are in the right place, and we'll soon see if he has the courage of his convictions.

If the Republicans can't get a nominee voted on when they are in the majority, how are they ever going to get one? Frist and Cheney have to stand up and lead the Senate on this issue. If Republicans do not prevail one way or the other, you can close up the Congress. Activist judges will do the legislating, who needs Congress? The Dems figured this out a long time ago.
