That's A Lot Of Dimes

The Associated Press reports that The Republican National Committee "raised a record $32.3 million in the first three months of the year,"

Interestingly enough, the Associated Press omitted a detail. They reported:

In all, the committee received 715,000 individual contributions so far this year and logged 68,200 new donors, Mehlman said.

The RNC release says:

The RNC has received 715,000 contributions this year, with an average gift of $45.14. More than 68,200 new donors have contributed to the RNC this year.

You'd think that the average gift size would be an interesting detail to report in the news. When Howard Dean was running for President, he made it known how small the average donation to his campaign was. An average gift of just over $45 conflicts with the perception that the Republican Party is funded by the rich.
