I had always believed that Michael Schiavo had been wrongly villified... It appears that I was right. A report from yesterday reveals that after 89 complaints of abuse were investigated, they "never found that he or anybody else harmed Terri Schiavo."
Regarding such allegations that Michael Schiavo had once said "When is that bitch going to die?" those were also dismissed.
DCF investigators looked into the charges and closed them as unfounded with such comments as "the spouse has always been courteous and very compassionate toward his wife" and "all her needs being met."
The article also reported that claims that the Schindlers were "exploiting their daughter by selling videotapes of her on the Internet" were also unfounded.
What seems to be the case here is that in such a heated debate over whether or not Terri Schiavo's fate should have beeen left in the hands of her husband, or given to her parents, people were willing to accept any claim, allegation, or crackpot theory as long as it supported their position.
I am sure some people will dismiss this report also.
You mean I wasn't the only conservative who was disgusted by our side's treatment of Michael Schiavo?

He is still a prick.

I will wait for the autopsy report. The organization making this report may be trying a CYA action and they are already famous for some pretty spectacular screw-ups that have led to the deaths of small children that they were supposed to be taking care of. The autopsy report will settle it once and for all.

Never mind the rest of the evidence, the rest of the testimonies, the rotted out teeth from lack of care provided by "the spouse (who) has always been courteous and very compassionate toward his wife" and having seen to it that "all her needs (were) being met."
I can see how hard we've been on the poor, villified Michael Schiavo who "loved" his wife so much that he shared a bed with another woman and provided her with two children, and, of course, murder by starvation and dehydration and a "do not resucitate order" AFTER he made money off her would always qualify as loving, caring, even angelic, behavior expected of any man caring for a woman.
I'm sure this will ease the conscience of many, but I still maintain that Michael Schiavo is an example why so many women say "men are pigs." Whether all men are or not is still debatable, I remain convinced, however, that Michael Schiavo is.

BTW, for those of you who live in such sheltered environments that you've never seen a woman who has been abused but who has no outward physical signs of it and there are no witnesses but herself - it's still VERY real!

I don't dismiss the report. The DCF has over 30 allegations they are STILL investigating.
Also, there is the matter of the bone scan showing broken bones a year after her collapse that could show up for 18 months on a bone scan. I'm still waiting for someone to explain that. Felos' comment about osteporosis doesn't cut it. It takes longer than a year to develop.
As far as crackpot theories go, we will just have to wait and see how this all plays out. You may be right, but I will tell you, I am not a conspiracy nut. With that said, something isn't right with this case.
MS should never have been able to make the decision that she wanted to end her life. It was his word 7 years later, and then all of sudden his SIL and brother jump on board??? And the judge makes an admitted mistake in discounting TS's friend's and mother's testimony, and the judge says it doesn't change anything? There was a clear conflict about what she would have done. They should have erred on the side of life.
Me, I will be waiting to see the autopsy and other reports before I make a final determination.

They were??? DCF didn't become involved until 2001 when she was in Hospice. The nurses that made the above statement worked with Terri in 1997 or 1998, I believe. It was before the DCF became involved, so how could they dismiss this? They only ever saw Terri in hospice...

Pardon me for being somewhat sceptical of anything "investgated" by DCF.
Indifference to care is pretty much the same thing as abuse. Decayed teeth are absolute proof of neglect, as are the claw-like hands we saw in the video. It's been proven that MS refused to allow any kind of rehabilitative therapy for Terri. A nurse who cared for her for a couple of years stated that they felt so sorry for her they tried to do what they could, regarding simple things as Range of Motion excercises to keep her tendons from tightening up, but had to be careful to not be "caught" by MS. When questioned about what he would do to them if he caught them, she replied it was what he would do to Terri---that one time he found them doing some basic physical therapy work with her, became very angry, and locked himself in the room with Terri for over an hour. When he left, she was unresponsive even to those she had appeared to respond to before his arrival. This was part of an affadavit signed by the nurse, who was willing to go on record with a sworn statement about her experiences with MS.
This nurse also testified that Terri tried to cooperate when they put lotion on her hands by trying to open them and spread her fingers, sucked on a washcloth when her mouth was being cleaned out and subsequently would suck on a cloth dipped in water or orange juice (seeming to prefer the orange juice) and could swallow small pieces of Jello. Unaware? Unresponsive? Yet denied basic physical therapy to stretch tendons, ligaments, and muscles to avoid painful contraction. Call it neglect, call it indifference, but to many of us it is the same as abuse. Passive abuse, perhaps, but a disregard for the comfort of the woman he claimed to be protecting.

CDF is not absolute authority, although for lack of an alternative it very often times is seen as such. If clear and obvious evidence isn't present at the time of the investigation, the claim must be unfounded. I am a former CPS worker and I know. Also, I turned in a sitter for hitting my child with bare feet to avoid leaving marks when my then 3 yr. old child came to me and asked "Mommy, did you know if you kick someone with bare feet, you don't leave marks?" When I asked why he thought that he said his sitter told him and she took of her shoes whenever she kicked him. The allegation was unfounded because, being no fool, I pulled my child from the day care immediately and by the time they went to check it out, the abuse no longer was taking place, but it doesn't mean it didn't happen. As my co-workers used to say when I worked for child protective: "I believe the child". As for MS, if it looks like a snake, crawls like a snake, eats like a snake and rattles like one... face it,it's a snake. He may not have put her in a comma but he killed her just the same by denying her the opportunity for nourishment and hydration. Let's say he didn't want the tube, they should have still allowed the parents to try to feed her by mouth and seen if she could swallow. If she could, death wasn't a certainty but no one will ever know because she's dead thanks to his actions and decisions. Vilified? hardly. No one knew for sure what that woman wanted and if he was her advocate why did he not try withdrawal of the feeding tube before he got the settlement money? At the very least, he kept her alive against her wishes longer to get money. At worst, he lied like a rug and had her killed without any idea of what she really wanted for money. In my opinion, he is a far lower life form than Scott Peterson, whom is himself a few notches below an amoeba. Sorry, but there is no vilification-only the dire prospect of sanctification of someone utterly undeserving.
