The NYU student newspaper covers one of their alums, Adam Brecht, who is attempting a run against Hillary Clinton in 2006.
Brecht ('89 College of Arts and Science) topped the list of true contenders in recent poll against other potential Republican challengers, including Westchester County DA Jeanine Pirro and Ed Cox. Giuliani, Pataki and Lazio scored higher but are widely considered not interested in the race.
The Marist College Institute for Public Opinion polled voters last week and reported that in a race between Clinton and Brecht, Brecht would garner 29 percent of the vote. This is a wide margin behind Clinton, who continued 61 percent, though Brecht came in before both Pirro (28 percent) and Cox (26 percent).
There's a good historical brief on Brecht in the NYU article, including his stints for Sen. John Heinz in PA and Sen. Al D'Amato of NY. Brecht's website is www.adamfornewyork.com.
Footnote: Brecht has been campaigning for some time, dating back to the RNC last year. He appears very adept at getting his name in the press, obviously from his years of experience in PR. This trait will inevitably come in handy in the coming year.
