Getting a GOP elected to anything in New York City is always a difficult task, and I have to say that I never thought we'd see the prospect of a re-elected Mayor Bloomberg, but the latest poll indicates that we just might see this:
Spending millions of early campaign dollars and courting his constituents may be paying off for Republican Mayor Michael Bloomberg in the form of brighter poll numbers, a new survey suggests.Matched one-on-one, Bloomberg now leads former Bronx borough president Fernando Ferrer, 51 percent to 38 percent, with 11 percent undecided, according to the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion. Last month, Ferrer led Bloomberg 49 percent to 42 percent, Marist said.
Bloomberg, of course, is the liberal Republicans liberal Republican; he couldn't get elected Republican dog-catcher anywhere outside of New York City, but it looks like he's got the confidence of the people of the City of New York. Also, while he is a liberal Republican, we can say for certain that he's the better prospect than any of the New York Democrats who are seeking his job...there's a world of difference between a Republican who is liberal and a Democrat who is round-the-bend leftwing nuts.
I am glad that the NYC mayor is a republican and hope it stays that way in the future. Liberal Republicans are still believers in the most important aspect of government...that our economy and the rule of law are the most important sectors to be spending our efforts on. Without a strong economy, people will be depending on society for handouts and our ability to withstand attacks is diminished.
