For decades now, PBS has been a sacred cow of the leftwing elite, and a continual sorce of irritation for the conservative movement. The left has viewed it as the one good thing on television, while the right has viewed it as a government-subsidised, leftwing propaganda machine. Years ago, we GOPers tried to kill government funding of the network, figuring that the taxpayers shouldn't have to pay for opinions they disagree with. The left got out its propaganda machine and we got stuck with continued government funding of PBS...but now the wheel has turned full circle, and it is the left complaining of conservatism over at PBS. The problem, in the left's view, is that this one conservative, Kennety Y. Tomlinson, was appointed by President Bush and has actually had the nerve to say that PBS has a bias and he's proposing to do something about it.
Other senior leaders at PBS dispute the notion of leftwing bias....I'll pause here until you've stopped laughing....but the point in my view is that the left had its chance to have PBS be entirely independent of any political influence on the right, but they fought us tooth and nail to keep government involved. Fine. If we can't kill it as a taxpayer-fed boondoggle for the left, then we'll at least demand that our views get routinely expressed on the network...at least half of America is conservative, anyways, and they have a right to their insightful documentaries, too. They have Frontline, we'll take Backline; they've got American Experience, we'll set up Real American Experience; they've got Teletubbies, we'll make Booksmarties....tit for tat; one drop of conservatism for each drop of liberalism. Fair is fair.
Even better, let's split the network in two and get some competition going.

"tit for tat; one drop of conservatism for each drop of liberalism. Fair is fair."
Be careful now, we don't want to give them an excuse to reinstitute the Un-Fairness Doctrine!
I can hear the screams now, "NOOOOOO, we can't do that! They have Rush, Sean, Laura, Medved...et al! Air America hasn't caught on yet!"

Instead just sell the whole thing to Moveon.org.
