Tennessee WaltzFour Tennessee Democrats and one Republican were arrested this morning in Memphis in a dramatic scene. The charges were the result of a 2-year FBI sting operation into bribery, extortion and more. More arrests are expected.
The most prominent figure involved is State Senator John Ford, uncle to Rep. Harold Ford, Jr. This cannot be good for Jr.'s announcement yesterday that he will seek TN's Senate seat being vacated by Bill Frist next year.
There are stories of John Ford making death threats (indictment), cops surrounding the courthouse and blocking state lines (blogger account), one accused being rushed to the hospital (rumor) and more.

From what the media here in Memphis is reporting, Big John and Ms. Bowers were arrested in Nashville, and were being "returned to Memphis" by the FBI.
I do know that Big John's Memphis office was searched beginning just before 10am this morning. (It is across the street from where I sit right now.)
Big John is also accused of threatening witnesses. Claiming that he'd even kill someone if they got in his way (a paraphrase). This sort of behavior is nothing new to anyone who has lived in Memphis for a while. In fact, it is quite "in character" for Big John.
And yes, I assume Jr. is not a happy camper today... hehe
