Under the guise of "public safety" the California State Senate throws a bone to illegal immigrants...
The latest attempt to provide driver's licenses for illegal immigrants passed the state Senate on Thursday, after proponents tied the measure to the state's compliance with a new federal law intended to deter terrorists. The bill by Sen. Gil Cedillo, D-Los Angeles, includes provisions that restrict how the licenses can be used and what they would look like. Cedillo said the federal law signed by President Bush last month forced him to accept restrictions he previously rejected.
Republican State Senator Tom McClintock offers a voice of reason...
Sen. Tom McClintock, R-Northridge, accused proponents of using the federal law to disguise their attempts to give licenses to illegal immigrants. The federal deadline for adopting regulations isn't until January 2009."It is not about public safety ... it's about illegal immigration," said McClintock, who voted against the bill.
He said passing the measure means that "it's the official policy of our state to ignore federal immigration law. ... We are accommodating them in the violation of federal law."
You can read the bill (SB60) at the California State Senate website...
I wonder what percentage of bad laws can be traced back to these stupid add-ons. I wouldn't be surprised if it was 95%.
It'd be nice if such trickery would be outlawed. I know that this kind of stuff is the only way legislators can gain enough support for various bills to get anything passed... it's still wrong (or maybe that just means it's even more wrong). It'll never happen, but I'm beginning to think the only way for the country to run WELL is for the representatives of the people to not be allowed access to one another. They should be able to read both sides of each issue, and then when they have enough information, they vote... no deal making... no "I'll sign yours if you sign mine" or "I'll sign it if you tack on this unrelated thing that couldn't possibly garner sufficient support on it's own merits".

Here we go again. Another Hispanic lawmaker helping illegals to subvert the U.S. laws. Now in Texas, five Hispanic Democrats are trying to stop the Minutemen from coming to Texas.
Hispanic politicians are loyal only to their race and countries south of the border and not loyal to the U.S.A.
Just watch what the new Los Angeles mayor does and my point will be proven! Traitors!
