Pathetic Stereotypes + Democrats = Bad Theater

When your party loses the White House, sets historical records for losing seats in the Senate and House, and sees the walls closing in on your dearest allies (the United Nations, mainstream media, Jacques Chirac, etc), what do you do about it? Write a play!

Screen Play is a new play by A.R. Gurney. Described as a political satire, it's set in the year 2015, and envisions a future America ruled by a conservative religious majority. The economy is sagging, wars are raging, and culture is in decay. Many Americans have begun to flee to Canada and Mexico, and the government is struggling with this pandemic reverse immigration. The press release says, "With a plot borrowed liberally from a classic 1942 American film, Screen Play is a tale of politics, history, the city of Buffalo, and a love ruined by the Bush-Gore election of 2000."
What sheer brilliance. How long did it take someone to come up with this idea? 5 seconds, maybe?

The premise of this play sounds like a bad comments section from the Democratic Underground. Even in the People's Republic of Manhattan this play is going to be a bomb.

Of course, Frank Rich will opine this is the best play ever and despite sagging tickets sales and an early end to its run, I can imagine there is already "buzz" clammoring for Tony Award nominations.

If the Democrats weren't so delusional, Republicans might actually have to work to keep the majority. The horror.

Well it had to happen sometime... the first and last play about Buffalo... as for the rest... not worth commenting on.
