....it is really rather hard for me to quantify this one. It appears that a cadet at the Air Force Academy sent a farewell e mail to his classmates over the official computer system. Contained within this e mail was an attachment of varied inspirational quotes...quotes "from Buddha, Confucius, poets, authors, presidents and military leaders"...but also, horror of horrors, from the Bible. So, some asinine people complained and the Air Force investigated...and the cadet has been cleared:
DENVER (AP) - A former top cadet at the Air Force Academy was cleared Tuesday of any wrongdoing in his farewell e-mail to cadets that included quotes from the Bible.
I wonder what the charge was supposed to be? Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the cadet was cleared...but some people obviously thought that having a biblical quote in the e mail was a criminal offense...I'd like to see the statute which covers such things.
This is a chilling example of the anti-religious bigotry abroad in the United States today; are we religious believers supposed to censor ourselves whenever we come into proximity of the United States government? What is the meaning of all this?
Cadet Cleared of, Well, ummm....
Indecent quoting?

Cadet Cleared of Concious Quotations.
COLORADO SPRINGS: A former Air Force Academy Cadet was cleared today of all charges that he didn't present a "fair and balanced" set of quotes in his farewell email to fellow cadets. The quotes covered every major religion in globe including Christianity, it was the quotes from the Bible that raised the complaint.
One leftwing nut job said, "It's just not right that a military cadet can quote the Bible. It doesn't matter that he also quoted Buddah, Confuscious, and Barbra Boxer. In the end he is still trying to spread his vicious evil relgion to everyone else. We just couldn't stand for it!"
Said leftwing nut job was arrested after he attacked this reporter for telling him the results of the inquiry. He awaits a hearing and assault and battery with two broken bones.

The ACLU is giving the Boy Scouts Grief because the scout oath "doing my duty to God". They find this offensive and brought a lawsuit against the Pentagon to stop sponsoring scout troops (amoung other actions).
We are just sitting around allowing these pukes to get away with this. The next thing you know, they will attack the Chaplains and the Churches on military establishments. Bob Lee, Eagle Scout 1946.

Personally, I would like to see Christianity just fade away...however I would never try to stifle someone's freedom of expression like that! That's just ridiculous, especially considering the all-inclusive nature of the different quotes used. Who are these people? None of the "left-wing" people I know would try to police a personal message like that.
I only visit these blogs once in a while out of curiosity, and often I'm surprised at how the "other side" sees my side of the fence. I guess there are some wingnuts out there on the left who would legislate that kind of personal expression, but I think they are rare...at least I don't know of any. However, I do know of plenty of right-wingers who would like to legislate people's personal lives, such as who they choose to marry.
On the Boy Scouts issue, it's not so clear-cut...they are a private organization, but receive public funding. Like the ACLU, I am for the seperation of church and state, because it promotes religious freedom, rather than the kind of theocracy that you see in so many middle eastern countries. On the surface, it seems like the Boy Scouts should be able to use whatever oath they want...but then when I think about my tax dollars going towards indoctrinating children, like my own nephew, into religious dogma...well I guess I have a problem with that.
BTW, the ACLU has also protected religious expression, like people's right to hold prayer circles in certain situations. And when I say I would like to see Chrisianity fade away, that's just my personal desire, and I think the best way to acheive that is just though promoting intellectual curiosity and letting people decide for themselves. But I still like some of the things Jesus said!
Thanks for listening.

Personally, I would like to see Christianity just fade away...
Why? Do you find it harmful?
however I would never try to stifle someone's freedom of expression like that! That's just ridiculous, especially considering the all-inclusive nature of the different quotes used.
So if you shroud a biblical quote by surrounding it with sectarian quotes, it somehow legitimizes it?
Who are these people? None of the "left-wing" people I know would try to police a personal message like that.
Then you must not know very many liberals.
I only visit these blogs once in a while out of curiosity, and often I'm surprised at how the "other side" sees my side of the fence.
Something tells me that what you see on "these blogs" isn't the only thing that surprises you. I'll bet the sun coming up every day surprises you.
I guess there are some wingnuts (sic) out there on the left who would legislate that kind of personal expression, but I think they are rare...at least I don't know of any.
There are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of examples of liberals trying to stifle religious expression in America. I'm betting you don't see them because you refuse to look.
However, I do know of plenty of right-wingers who would like to legislate people's personal lives, such as who they choose to marry.
Bull. Attempts to define who can get married are only in response to the liberal attempts to turn marriage into something accessible to the perverted homosexual community. If it weren't for liberal activist judges trying to force homosexual marriage on the population with no recourse, the right would not be making any legislative effort. Stop lying.
On the Boy Scouts issue,
Please cite the clause in the Constitution that says "separation of church and state." Our Constitution says we should have freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. Although I am an atheist, even I can understand that. Why can't you?
And when I say I would like to see Chrisianity (sic) fade away, that's just my personal desire, and I think the best way to acheive (sic) that is just though promoting intellectual curiosity and letting people decide for themselves.
Fortunately, your opinion does not matter.
But I still like some of the things Jesus said!
How "tolerant" of you. Bugger off.

Hey Scar,
You realize that your rants like that just give all of us a bad name, right? There was nothing useful and only name calling in your response.

I disagree, carstairs38. Scaramonga made several pertinent points when he fisked that rant, and I challenge you to point to ONE "name" he "called". I'm proud to be associated with Scaramonga.
