The party of no ideas is back at gumming up the Senate.
Senate Democrats said Tuesday they will try to prevent a final vote on John R. Bolton to be ambassador to the United Nations unless the White House provides more information about his activities.Rather than have leaky Senators and their leaky staffs review the intelligence information the Democrats are seeking, the White House has provided the information to the Senate intelligence committee, which already has access.
Jay Rockefeller, ranking Democrat on the intelligence committee, said he found "no evidence that there was anything improper" about Bolton's requests. Rockefeller's word from the intelligence committee ought to be good enough for the Democrats on the foreign relations committee. That it is not proves that (excuse the compounded ichthyological idioms) this demand for more information is nothing more than a red herring to cover up a fishing expedition.
I think it's more along the lines of obstructionism. The Dems have taken to fighting Bush on every issue and every nomination, not because there are really any constructive reasons to do so, but because they are trying to make his job harder. They want him to "fail" as part of what I think of as the LWOB(Liberals' War On Bush), not really concerning themselves with any resulting consequences to the American people. Shameful and not altogether patriotic, but there it is.
