This is Senator Dick Durbin, on the floor of the Senate yesterday:
Let me read to you what one FBI agent saw. And I quote from his report:On a couple of occasions, I entered interview rooms to find a detainee chained hand and foot in a fetal position to the floor, with no chair, food or water. Most times they urinated or defecated on themselves, and had been left there for 18-24 hours or more.
On one occasion, the air conditioning had been turned down so far and the temperature was so cold in the room, that the barefooted detainee was shaking with cold. ..... On another occasion, the [air conditioner] had been turned off, making the temperature in the unventilated room well over 100 degrees. The detainee was almost unconscious on the floor, with a pile of hair next to him. He had apparently been literally pulling his hair out throughout the night. On another occasion, not only was the temperature unbearably hot, but extremely loud rap music was being played in the room, and had been since the day before, with the detainee chained hand and foot in the fetal position on the tile floor.
If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime--Pol Pot or others--that had no concern for human beings. Sadly, that is not the case. This was the action of Americans in the treatment of their prisoners.
the air conditioning had been turned down so far and the temperature was so cold in the room, that the barefooted detainee was shaking with cold.
Like I do everytime I eat out in a restaurant in Texas - it's so frigid I can hardly swallow! And the few times I ever make it to church somewhere, it's like they're trying to be the opposite of hell - you can freeze alive in church! Plus, I always have to take a coat to the movies.
the temperature in the unventilated room well over 100 degrees
Holy sh-t! Not that! It's not like our soldiers don't live and work in full gear in 120 degree weather every frickin' day!! Good g-d, I live in Texas, 100 degrees is normal around here. Quit yer pansy-ass whinin', Dick-head Durbin.
The detainee was almost unconscious on the floor, with a pile of hair next to him. He had apparently been literally pulling his hair out throughout the night.
Ok, that just proves that the TERRORIST is a thumb-sucking moron. Bummer for him.
extremely loud rap music was being played in the room, and had been since the day before
Good. Hope it gave him a headache. Hopefully they got an earful of Christina Aguilera too!

Um... these people grew up in the middle east. I'm betting they're fairly used to the hot temperatures... that one just sounds like a day in the life of.
As for the others...
Cutting off fingers, hands, heads, whatever... or too much a/c
Being drug through the streets... or loud rap music (and if they don't speak English, then they miss the worst of it anyways, because they don't understand the vile words and situations described in the rap music).
Oh, the horror, the horror of uncomfortable temperatures and loud music! Would that we should treat these people in the kind and generous way they would treat us if the roles were reversed. We are such animals for forcing them into... um... things that many of us choose for ourselves.

Durbin is right. Don't we all remember Hitler's tactics of using airconditioning to conquer the French? Oh wait maybe it was the way Hitler used loud music to murder millions of Jews. Er wait, maybe Durbin doesn't know what he is talking about. Too bad this moron is one of my Senators.

Dick Durbin, one of my senators in spite of my votes, has done nothing to distinguish his service in the Senate, and now this emerges. I suspect this is another pol's attempt to grab headlines, but this is a pretty p*ss poor way of doing it.
He will not get my vote the next time either, he is a stupid typical lib. The Dems are on a GITMO crusade for one thing and one thing only; they are trying to latch onto an issue they think will discredit and tear down Bush's support. Bush is not very good on the defensive, as we saw with some of his recent support ratings declining. I much rather he confront the Dems head on.
OT, how soon will it be before we confront the Dems in the US Senate over the filibuster rule change situation. It is inevitable and GOP could lose with the likes of McCain, but we need to smoke this out and expose the Dems further as obstructionist. Who knows perhaps that is what they are planning after some of these confirmations are completed as part of this so-called deal.
