Senator Durbin, feeling the backlash from comments he recently made on the floor of the Senate, made a tearful "apology" today:
"Some may believe that my remarks crossed the line," the Illinois Democrat said. "To them I extend my heartfelt apologies."His voice quaking and tears welling in his eyes, the No. 2 Democrat in the Senate also apologized to any soldiers who felt insulted by his remarks.
"They're the best. I never, ever intended any disrespect for them," he said.
Too little, too late, Senator.
Let's not forget, he has previous refused to apologize for his shameful comments... This apology today is merely damage control. He doesn't regret what he said, he regrets the fallout he experienced after saying what he said.
While this doesn't change anything, it is still telling that the Democratic leadership still stands behind what he said.
UPDATE: Political Teen has video of Durbin's apology.
I'll tell you who else should apologize is CNN and MSNBC. FOx News covers the reporting of the Durbin apology, but do these other MSM outlets? Only ABC had a report on it, but the other alphabet soup outlets did not refer to it. CNN felt it was more newsworthy to report on Frist and flip flopping on the Bolton nomination, since it discredits a GOP leader rather than a Dem leader. CNN's open bias sickens me.
Not only is the MSM's subliminal reporting going on all the time to try to get you to think like their biases, but there are blantant acts of omission by the MSM as well (such as this) to try to influence public perception. This is not new, but it is BS nonetheless.
OT, the MSM is among the biggest enemies we have in the war on terror for precisely these factors as to how news reporting is slanted.

I stand corrected, thank goodness. CNN finally posts a story about Durbin and apologizing. If I can criticize when it is not reported, I should also acknwoledge a story that is reported when it should be.

I think the man meant it when he made that tearful apology today. I mean when Senator Durbin stopped for a moment and looked back on what he actually had said, he knew he had gone and flat screwed up. If I was him I think I would have shed a tear or two too! He was voted in... He can sure be voted out!!!!
(That thought my friend will make most any man cry...)

Is the Crybaby Blog taken yet? Seems like we are going to have to try keep track of these leaky faucets...

Durbin KNEW better than to say what he did. He had to. I would think a man his age would have some idea what a gulag or Nazi prison/consentration camp were like. I know almost nothing about gulags and not everything about Nazi consentration camps, but I do know that Gitmo does not compare to either. Durbin was either careless, stupid or foolish, or all three. His tearfull apology, I would not be suprised if AbureyJ was right, he sure can be voted out. It reminds me of the screw up that Senator Mark Dayton pulled. He is not running for reelection because he now knows it is not going to happen.
