Democrats are dangerously close to hoping that America fails simply to satisfy their lust for President Bush to fail pursuing a major policy objective. One manifestation of this troubling tendency is to propagate false claims of "torture" at Guantanamo Bay, which not only unfairly undercuts America's credibility in the war on terror but slanders our uniformed military personnel.

Of course, the charges that America is running a torture facility are specious. For example, the detainees are better fed than were Holocaust victims at Auschwitz.
