O'Connor Retires from Supreme Court

Let the games begin

UPDATE (By Mark Noonan): Planned Parenthood has already issued a press release:

The retirement of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor dramatically changes the Supreme Court's composition by removing a crucial moderate voice that has often helped protect the right to women's healthcare. We call on Senator Charles E. Schumer, who has a key seat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, to carefully review the qualifications of any nominee and consider the reproductive needs of the women of New York State. With Associate Justice O'Connor's resignation, the stage is set for a high-stakes struggle to defend the reproductive rights of women across the United States.

The mother of all political battles commences.

UPDATE II (By Mark Noonan): The Democratic position that I'm seeing so far is that President Bush MUST appoint a clone of O'Connor...this is Planned Parenthood and the rest of the pro-abortion lobby putting their foot down on the Democrats...for the Democrats, this whole upcoming fight boils down to a defense of Roe, though they'll never so much as whisper that name..

Blogs for Bush has more.

Comments

Let's leave speculation of whom the President will nominate in her stead for a different thread. Instead, I'd rather we praise and thank her for her service to this country in this one.

Dear Justic O'Connor,

Thank you for the service to this country, we appreciate the sacrifices you've undertook for the United States of America. We hope you enjoyed your time in the Supreme Court. There are a lot of quality decisions that hinged on your deciding vote that meant a lot to us, the conservative citizens of America. I personally wish your time away from the court is as exciting or boring as you hope it to be... as well as wishing better health to your husband whom we have heard is at least somewhat ill.

A Thankful Citzen.

Gee, I wonder if Chucky Schumer, the unprincipled donk buffoon, gets donations from Planned Parenthood?

It's going to be a fun summer. How can we get 60 votes is all I want to know. I figure we either get a nomination vote or 60 seats in 2006.
