Survey: London Bombings Backfired

According to this survey, the British are responding to the July 7 terror attack in typical fashion - steely resolve.

In the aftermath of Thursday's bombings, Mr Blair's approval rating has flipped from negative to positive for the first time in five years.

Moreover, the bombings have failed - despite Mr George Galloway's best efforts - to undermine support for the British presence in Iraq. The proportion wanting British troops brought home quickly has fallen and the proportion who now want Britain to retain its close ties with the US has risen.

Funny how it takes this kind of thing to remind folks of how this world has changed (post-9/11) and how we will either have to change with it or ultimately give up our way of life.

The public is fickle and suffers from short-term memory. The British are not so different than the Americans in this way, but I dare say that their history has forged them into more resilient stuff.

I would venture to guess that they will look for strength and resolve from their leadership now, and this can only improve our relationship with them. I would be surprised to see the "Gitmo" propaganda get any play on the isles now. We can only hope for it to be so here.
