Let's face it: the war on terror is poorly named. Daniel Pipes has said this is like calling World War II the war on sneak attacks. Just as our enemy in every prior war was people, not a tactic (which is what terrorism is), so we have an enemy now. In reality, we are in a war against radical Islam. And as Pipes has also said, the only way to defeat radical Islam is with moderate Islam.
So the question is, what is moderate Islam doing to help win this war? It is a question that is not being asked or answered nearly enough. And some indications are indeed worrisome. While Britain has become a welcome haven for militant Muslims, it seems that the younger generation is not only not assimilating, but cheering on the terrorists themselves (via Instapundit). And the result appears to be that the London bombers are homegrown Muslims.
We need a Muslim Gandhi, but where is he?
Moderate moslem? Peaceful moslem? Oh, that means a moslem who doesn't practice islam...guess that's why we don't see a counter movement within islam to jihadism. The answer to reforming islam into an ideology that plays nice with others is to defeat it and then rewrite it externally, rather than wait for a dillusional western fantasy of islamic introspection and reform from within.

A popular reason for being against this War is the complaint that Muslims are not doing anything to stop terrorism themselves. Both liberals and conservatives alike have wondered where are the "moderate" Muslims speaking out against terrorism and organizing marches and protests against the "radicals hijacking their religion". The main excuse given by Muslims and their sympathizers is that "moderate" Muslims cannot speak out for fear of being targeted.
Well guess what, Muslims, American men and women are putting on uniforms and making themselves targets of the terrorists in defense of America as well as for the liberation of your ungrateful and gutless people. And I am speaking to "moderate" Muslims here in America. We saw the bravery of the Afghani and Iraqi Muslims as they risked their LIVES to stand in line to vote. Iraqi Muslims risk their lives to stand in line to sign up for the Iraqi Police and the Iraqi Military. What are American Muslims doing? Where are their protests of terrorism? Where is their courage to speak out against al Qaeda?
We supposedly have 2 million Muslims living in America. Well, I have a new label for them. They are no longer Muslim-Americans or Islamic-Americans or American Muslims. They are simply Muslim COWARDS.
I am fed up with the exuses given by "moderate" Muslims that they cannot speak out for fear of being targeted by the terrorists. That's BS and they know it. Millions of Iraqi and Afghan Muslims took to the streets and voted in the face of real terrorism and threats to their lives. The worst Muslims have to worry about in America is a dirty look, maybe some rude comments or worst case, someone pissing on a Koran.
Until I see some Muslims who reside here in America get off their sorry asses and get out there and denounce al Qaeda and protest each and every terrorist attack in the same fashion that Muslims protested the false Koran story, I will consider all Muslims here in America to be cowards. It is time for the Muslims to start sticking up for themselves and stop having American men and women lose their lives liberating their sorry ass country.
Unless Muslims here in America come out in support of the liberation of Iraq and Afghanistan, I say we pull out of the Middle East and let them fight amongst themselves. And we leave there with the warning that if America is ever attacked again on her soil, Mecca will be obliterated within the hour.

Sorry Mike, you lost me at surrender. I agree with your rant, but cannot see the logic in retreating from iraq under terrorist fire. We will only encourage more terror and more islamic expansion by doing something so cowardly. We not only should stay in Iraq, but we need to escalate so that all PC fighting is abolished for a total war of conquest. Iraq, and the rest of the arab world, needs to look a lot like Japan/Germany circa 1945.

Right on about American Muslims..most of them are against the war in Iraq and voted for Kerry. When they do make comments about the terrorists, they make excuses for it by referencing the policies of the US as if anything could justify the slaughter of innocent civilians.
However, pulling out of Iraq will lead to another Afghanistan for the Jihadies from all over the ME. It wouldn't be long before they conjured a plan to inflict mass casualities on the US homeland.
We can't leave any time soon..maybe move troops to another problem spot, i.e. Syria?
