Bush went with a safe pick. I have no basis to dislike the pick, but I can't say I am overjoyed. This is a guy who has spent his career on the "inside" of Washinton power circles. I doubt highly that left him a "moderate" (i.e. I doubt highly he will be a Kennedy or an O'Connor).
Ultimately, I think he will either be a Scalia or a Souter. I'd rather be certain he was one (where I would be overjoyed) or the other (where I would personally filibuster the nominee and move to impeach Bush -- lol).
Just my $0.02 (but I am crabby today).

The fact we don't know whether he's Scalia or Souter is troublesome. You have to hope that Bush & Co. have grilled him to the point of being absolutely certain that this guy will uphold the sanctity of the Constitution.
