Immigration - and especially illegal immigration - may end up being a very major issue in the 2008 elections. All Democrats and most Republicans think that the only thing you can do on immigration and have a hope of winning election is to pander, pander, pander to the advocates of illegal immigration. What will win in 2008, however, is a politician who understands the growing anger - shared by many legal immigrants - over how illegals bring immense costs and only minimal benefits to our society while at the same time placing us all at risk as terrorists seek to swim within the sea of illegals. Hillary Clinton, speaking to the race-hustling, endless-whine group La Raza, has come down on what will be the least popular immigration position in 2008:
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y. pledged Monday to help reduce high school drop out rates among Hispanics, make it easier for illegal immigrant children go to college, and improve health care for the nation's fastest growing minority group......She also touched on several education issues, including her support of legislation known as the DREAM Act, which would allow illegal immigrant children who finish high school in the United States to avoid deportation, earn a path to citizenship, and possibly receive in-state college tuition rates.(emphasis added)
Got that? You're an American citizen and you and your children live in, say, Nebraska and your daughter would like to attend college in California...you'll pay out of State tuition (usually a very high price)...but under Hillary's plan, the child of an illegal immigrant who happens to live in California will pay in-State tuition. Break our laws and Hillary's only response is to figure out how to get you ever more benefits. This issue is the sort of issue we can just hammer Hiilary and the rest of the Democrats on - we've got plenty of Republicans who are equally obtuse on this issue, but it is the Democrats who are the real race-panders in the United States.
As readers of this blog know, I am an advocate of immigration - immigration is what built our nation; but illegal immigration, that is another thing entirely. Our Democrats want as many illegals as possible because they see this as an endless mine of votes (whether or not they are eligible to vote is entirely irrelevant to our Democrats) - but all sensible people know that you can't reward illegal acts...and illegals are, well, illegal...they have broken our laws. Far from rewarding them, we should be finding them and deporting them. We can place this issue before the American people and see who wins...
