Radio Equalizer Brian Maloney has been keeping tabs on the Air America funding scandal. If you are unfamiliar with this, what appears to have happened is that Air America received $480,000.00 in taxpayer funds from the Gloria Wise Boys and Girls Club - this happening back when Air America first started and immediately flopped. It is unclear just why the Boys and Girls Club would figure that Air America is a worthy beneficiary of taxpayer funds designated to help out underprivileged kids; in addition, it doesn't look like anyone at Air America was trying to profit personally from the transaction - but lets just say that such a transfer is highly irregular, and likely illegal. It is, however, in the grand liberal/left tradition...you know, passing the people's cash around to liberal/left groups who can't survive in the marketplace.
What is strange - and immensely amusing - about the whole affair is the leftwing reaction to it: first it was a dead silence, and then assertions that the whole story was false. One lefty blogger even went out on a limb and claimed she couldn't find the story via a Google search - a very dumb move for a blogger to make because the instant response to such an assertion is to, well, do a Google search and see what comes up. If you search "Michael Horowitz Bronx News" (Horowitz being the reporter and Bronx News being the outfit who first broke the story), Google comes up with the original story.
Ah, the left - they believe made-up scandal stories about President Bush, Tom Delay and Karl Rove...but they will not believe verifiable scandal stories about the United Nations, Joe Wilson...or Air America. I don't know why the left would have such a hard time with this - after all, they probably think it was a good idea. Here was Air America, launched with gigantic hopes of overthrowing Rush Limbaugh (oh, they say they want to get at all rightwing talk radio...but Rush Limbaugh, that is who they're really after with Air America) and it was right from the start known that it was going to fail, and fail rather badly...desperate times call for desperate measures. Where to turn? Well, why not the Boys and Girls Club? After all, Air America was launched to save the children from a fate worse than death (that would be, by the way, a second Bush term)...it was a natural that the kiddies should pony up for their own salvation.
I, too, did a search of Yahoo News using the keywords: Air America scandal, and I also came up with no hits. Not one. I had to search the web instead.
Apparently, none of the MSM (Reuters, AP, UPI, etc.) have used those three words in connection with this story. If you search just the news sites, you seem to come up empty.
I, for one, am shocked! Shocked, I tell you!
