A Democrat With Common Sense

At least one politician is willing to publicly state how absurd New York City's random bomb searches are.

Dov Hikind charged that it's "insane" to look for bombs in the bags of "75-year-old grandmothers," adding, "The FBI and authorities have a good idea of who is going to commit terrorism. They all look similar, but everyone is terrified of using the word 'racial.'"

The Brooklyn Democrat said the NYPD's 10-day-old tactic of randomly checking bags — without regard to race or ethnicity — at subway entrances may be politically correct, but it won't save lives.

Of course, the ACLU still has it's head in the PC sand.
New York Civil Liberties Union's chief Donna Lieberman called racial profiling "discriminatory," and said it "serves no purpose whatsoever."
No purpose? She must have been stuck in a cave (not Osama's) while terrorist attacks have been committed around the world by people with a similiar background.

Now I did see someone on Fox last week saying that too much racial profiling won't help us either. They'll just recruit people of a different ethnicity to do their dirty work.

Well, it would be silly to check the bags of only one race. Terrorists exist everywhere. Just because Al Queda is foremost on our minds doesn't mean we should forget about other threats out there. And there are reports that Al Queda has many new recruits in Europe...

Also, we should be cautious of copy-cats. Almost every crime is met with copy-cats afterwards.

So how do they decide who is "randomly" chosen? Is it every fifth entry or something? If there is no objective baseline, and I'm not saying it has to be public, just that it has to exist, then it is a judgement call by the searchers. If, as seems likely, any teenage Arab fellow can get the ACLU to climb up the grunt-level security guy's bum if the Arab suffers the indignity of kafir searching his ruck, the searchers WILL profile... by avoiding searching these people just as, so perversely at the airport, the screeners ostenatiously LOOK AWAY from just the sort of folks seen flying jets into buildings a while back. Profiling is no panacea and there is always SOME way around security but we need serious minded approaches to these hurdles. Avoiding the reality of the racial make-up of our adverseries does not help in that regard.

Then call it appearance profiling..it's a law enforcement tool that's used all the time to apprehend a suspect who fits the description.

If I were profiling terrorists ONE thing they all have in common, is that they're Muslims, Islamists...another shared characteristic is..WHAT?..you finish the profile.

If someone promised to give you a million dollars if you caught a terrorist..where would you go to find one? What type of person would you look for?
