Even If Next Nominee is Conservative, Court Is Still Liberal

We've done this math before, but it's time for a reminder.

Stevens + Ginsburg + Breyer + Souter + Kennedy = 5 Liberals

Roberts + Scalia + Thomas + [Conservative nominee] = 4 Conservatives

So even if President Bush nominates and the Senate confirms a conservative to replace O'Connor, the Supreme Court is still liberal. Let's remember this when the liberals scream hysterically about the next nominee and and the need for a "mainstream" judge or a "balanced" court.

Actually, with the Court having a liberal majority on social issues of 6-3, it is decidedly unbalanced, considering the last several elections.
