The man who rose on the coattails of the blog phenomenon only to perish in a ball of screaming fire, yesterday spoke of blogs as if they were already... so 2004.
When reporters continued questioning Mr. Ferrer about the blog entry, Dr. Dean downplayed the importance of blogs, despite the fact that his own campaign Web site, which prominently featured a blog, boosted him to a new level of national prestige last year."What is this obsession with blogs? Does anyone care about education in this city?" Dr. Dean asked. "Freddy cares about education. ... I really think the people of New York are going to be more interested in what a Mayor Ferrer is going to do for the school system than they are about whatever Mayor Bloomberg's nonsense about blogs is."
Yeah, obsession. Nice way to kick the hand that fed you.
From TIME Magazine 2004:
Candidates Love Blogs O.K., so Howard Dean never wrote his blog. But his campaign workers posted a surprisingly intimate online diary of life on the road, and Dean had collected $20 million in contributions via the Internet alone by the end of January 2004. It didn't take long for other politicos to catch on. When New York attorney general Eliot Spitzer announced that he was running for Governor this month, he did so on his blog.
Perhaps Mr. Dean has become a fan of Tennyson?
'Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.
