Miers Requests Withdrawal of Nomination

Just breaking. If President Bush selects a genuine judicial originalist with strong credentials, he can easily re-unify conservatives. In the meantime, although Harriet Miers was obviously not the most qualified nominee for the Supreme Court nor did she have any track record to indicate a solid originalist philosophy, she seemed to be an able lawyer and a decent person. It was unfortunate that she was tossed into this maelstrom and hopefully she can return to the President's side as counsel and serve out the term with distinction.

More importantly, if we do get a solid nominee, it will be time for all conservatives to come back together and fight for confirmation.

I still think she was a decoy.

I agree with Jason's analysis. I think the Bush Administration had a fallback tactic and used Miers (as a 2nd choice for a woman Supreme court judge) and put her 1st to draw the political fire from Democrats. You should've seen what Kennedy and Reid said about her supposing she get nominated (before Miers). Not really nice of them.
