Instapundit points to Sen. Jay Rockefeller's (D-WV) words on going to war to remove Saddam. It is important to note that Rockefeller is the ranking Democrat on the intelligence committee, making him privy to highly classified information. Here is Rockefeller before the war started:
There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years...Here is Rockefeller yesterday on Fox News Sunday.this time, our nuclear foe would be an unpredictable and often irrational individual, a dictator who has demonstrated that he is prepared to violate international law and initiate unprovoked attacks when he feels it serves his purposes to do so.
The global community -- in the form of the United Nations -- has declared repeatedly, through multiple resolutions, that the frightening prospect of a nuclear-armed Saddam cannot come to pass. But the U.N. has been unable to enforce those resolutions. We must eliminate that threat now, before it is too late...
...He is working to develop delivery systems like missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles that could bring these deadly weapons against U.S. forces and U.S. facilities in the Middle East.
And he could make those weapons available to many terrorist groups which have contact with his government...
At the end of the day, we cannot let the security of American citizens rest in the hands of someone whose track record gives us every reason to fear that he is prepared to use the weapons he has against his enemies...
As the attacks of September 11 demonstrated, the immense destructiveness of modern technology means we can no longer afford to wait around for a smoking gun. September 11 demonstrated that the fact that an attack on our homeland has not yet occurred cannot give us any false sense of security that one will not occur in the future. We no longer have that luxury...
America's best opportunity to move the United Nations and Iraq to a peaceful resolution of this crisis is by making clear the U.S. is prepared to act on our own, if necessary, as one nation, indivisible...
By my vote, I say to Saddam Hussein, "Disarm, or the United States will be forced to act."
WALLACE: But you voted, sir, and aren't you responsible for your vote? After spreading the "Bush Lied!" calumny, Rockefeller has some nerve showing his face around Washington, much less on TV.SEN. ROCKEFELLER: No.

It goes deeper, Jon.
Look what else came upo in that same interview:
SEN. ROCKEFELLER: No. The – I mean, this question is asked a thousand times and I'll be happy to answer it a thousand times. I took a trip by myself in January of 2002 to Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Syria, and I told each of the heads of state that it was my view that George Bush had already made up his mind to go to war against Iraq – that that was a predetermined set course which had taken shape shortly after 9/11.
Rockefeller was, by his own words, sharing his own personal breakdown of American War strategy to "Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Syria"... and this breakdown is based on information only a select few had at the time. This is an act of treason, pure and simple.
Rockefeller needs to be removed... frog-marched from the chamber, toward a waiting police car, and escorted to a high security prison, under armed guard in front of news cameras.

You have to love it when they "out" themselves!
Bithead, they are never held accountable for their words. That only happens to Republicans, i.e., Trent Lott, et al.

Everyone should be held accountable for their votes. Everyone from Kennedy to Rockefeller to McCain.I do not see why one party or the other party should be blamed for what occurred. I think our representatives as a whole should be held responsible for what is happening in Iraq. 2,000 men are dead and no weapons were found. Someone needs to be held accountable.

Jargon,
Accountable for what? For believing the CIA, MI5, UN? The whole world agreed that Saddam had WMD and was seeking to expand and improve his arsenal...
Can't go back with 20/20 and hold anyone responsible for an error...if, indeed, there was an error...there are still those stories of WMDs being moved to Syria while we did the absurd UN dance for four months...

If its the CIAs fault then the CIA should be held accountable. My point is someone needs to be fired or imprisoned or outed for this lack of weapons in Iraq.
also, If my memory serves me correctly, I dont remember the UN ever being too overly excited about supporting The U.S. actions? I remember there being alot of discussion over the existance of these weapons thus alot of inspections.
On a side note, why havent we talked to our friends the Saudi's about their country being an incubator for terrorism?
