Int'l Red Cross & Crescent: We Don't Take Jews

Anti-Semitism is rampant in the Islamic world, and the obstructionist power of Islamic nations is conspicuous in a whole range of international organizations, most notably the genetically anti-Israel UN. But perhaps the worst, most blatant example of Jew hatred is at a supposed "humanitarian" group, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, which operates under the auspices of the Geneva Conventions that professional handwringers tell us are so important for the protection of terrorists, has blocked Israel's membership for decades because of intolerance of Jews. While the Cross and the Crescent were somehow acceptable religious symbols, the Star of David was deemed unacceptable and that was the pretext for Israel's exclusion.

Now there is a "compromise" to facilitate Israel's membership in the IFRC. The compromise, of course, is that Jews are still unwanted in this "humanitarian" organization and Israel has to forfeit the symbol of its people: the Star of David is still verboten, to be replaced by a non-denominational "crystal."

A diamond-shaped red crystal on a white background is to join the Red Cross and the Red Crescent as an emblem for ambulances and relief workers.

Geneva Convention member states voted by a two-thirds majority for the symbol, ending a decades-old row and opens the way for Israel to join.

Israel had been denied entry because its Red Shield was not approved.

Relief workers and ambulances bearing the Red Cross or Red Crescent symbols are protected under international law.

It is an outrage that such blatant, overt racism and intolerance can be accepted, and even hailed as a satisfactory resolution. Either all Red Crosses and Crescents should be replaced by "crystals," or the Star of David should stand aside the others. To allow the symbols of Christianity and Islam, but forbid the symbol of Judaism, is rank anti-Semitism, pure and simple. Even with Israel's concession, the petulant, petty Arabs are not satisfied.
A spokesman for the Swiss government told reporters it was unfortunate that the crystal had not been adopted by consensus.

The Red Shield of David - or Magen David Adom - was not recognised by the 1949 Geneva Conventions, and Arab states had blocked attempts to find an alternative symbol.

This double-standard, in which Jews are not only considered to be second-class citizens of the world but this status is affirmed by the very international organizations that purport to uphold universal rights to human dignity, is exactly what provides the moral support and legitimacy to suicide bombers who kill wantonly for the glory of Islam. So long as the "international community" indulges and abets this systemic anti-Semitism, there will be no peace in the middle east.
