Attending the Alito Confirmation Hearings

As Matt has noted, I'll be meeting him in Washington, DC tomorrow so that we may participate in the hoopla of the first few days of the Alito confirmation hearings. It is with some trepidation that I undertake this trip - first off, because flying is an alarming thing at times, secondly because I've never been to DC and thus don't know precisely what to expect, other than that for a Nevadan, it'll be very, very cold.

I hope to be able to get a real feel for the way things work - after a lifetime of reading about it and watching it on TV, I'm finally going to see politics up close and personal. Someone once said that politics, like sausage-making, should never be watched - just enjoy the end product. Well, I'm going to go into the sausage grinder and see what it looks like.

I'll be doing the blogging on GOP Bloggers for the hearings, while Matt will hold down the fort at Blogs for Bush on the subject. I can't say how often I will post, but I'll try to keep it as frequent as possible in order ot give as an immediate sense of what is happening as I can.

Wish me luck, and a prayer or two would be appreciated.

Mark,
Good luck. Let us all know how the trip went, not just the Alito confirmaton. I am planning to make my first trip to DC this summer from MO and would like tips on where to stay, how to get around, and what to see.

Mark, I'm looking forward to your reports.

You will love DC in spite of all its warts.

The first visit is a little overwhelming as you see the history of our country right there in front of you. Take some time for sightseeing and tell us about that too.
