NAACP chairman compares GOP to Nazis

You know, we've heard similar pathetic rhetoric from the likes of Howard Dean, Harry Belafonte, and others... But it's Bush and Republicans who are accused of dividing this country...

Civil rights activist and NAACP Chairman Julian Bond delivered a blistering partisan speech at Fayetteville State University in North Carolina last night, equating the Republican Party with the Nazi Party and characterizing Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and her predecessor, Colin Powell, as "tokens."

"The Republican Party would have the American flag and the swastika flying side by side," he charged.

Bigotry from the NAACP should not be tolerated. And yes... that, my friends, is bigotry.

UPDATE: Jason has more thoughts...

Well said. Bond's rhetoric is indefensible and he should be marginalized from any legitimate political discussions from this day forward.

When the heck is this Hitler reference going to stop? I think Bond needs to take a tour through the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and compare notes when he comes out. I've been through this Memorial every time I've been to D.C. I want him to look at what he is comparing our President too. Look through the names of those who where slaughtered simply because they were Jewish. This is a complete insult to trivialize the 6 million Jewish Population that were "wiped off the map”, Can you think of anyone else who has used that term lately? Free speech is one thing but this guy compared 6 million people being incinerated our President. This is the most uneducated, ignorant, stupid, lame ass statement I have heard since the so called president of Iran said the Holocaust didn't happen.

What a racist.
