But I don't think they really understand what they are doing:
Washington, Mar. 01 (CWNews.com) - A group of Catholic members of the US House of Representatives has issued a "Statement of Principles" in which they claim a "commitment to the basic principles at the heart of Catholic social teaching," but refuse to accept the Church's opposition to legal abortion. The "Statement of Principles" was released on February 28, and signed by 55 of the 72 Catholic Democrats in the House of Representatives. The group professes its commitment to carrying out Catholic social teaching in many ways: "reducing the rising rates of poverty; increasing access to education for all; pressing for increased access to health care; and taking seriously the decision to go to war."
The Democratic group goes on to acknowledge "the undesirability of abortion-- we do not celebrate its practice." But the statement says that although they recognize the Church's teaching authority the lawmakers "believe also in the primacy of conscience." Acknowledging the "tension that comes with being in disagreement with the Church in some areas," the legislators leave it clear (if not explicitly stated) that they will not attempt to end legal abortion.
In case you were wondering why Methodist President Bush won a majority of Catholic votes against former altar-boy John Kerry, here's your reason: Democrats are so enthralled to a fanatic, pro-abortion position that even Catholic Democrats are forced to toe the line.
They don't seem to get it that "reducing the rising rate of poverty" doesn't even begin to compare, as a moral imperitive, with the need to save innocent human life. We could, in theory, eliminate all poverty by killing all the poor, but that wouldn't exactly be a Catholic solution, now would it? Of what use are all the social programs in the world to the innocent child who is murdered before birth?
I pity these poor people, and I pray that their hearts will be opened to the love of God and that they may rethink their views, and understand that Catholic truth is more important than the good wishes of NARAL.

Amen, praise the Lord and pass the ammunition. These D's are nothing more then selective cathoics who feel they can clear their conscious by this pathic banter. As always the D's primary principle is the lack of one. However, in fairness and to be academically honest. The rights stand on the death penalty is also forbidden under the teaching of the church. I for one can say that the abortion issue and the death peanalty are two issues I can agree with the Church. I spent too many years working in the criminal courts to know too many bad results come from there.

Bud,
I wouldn't put it that the conservative stand on the death penalty is forbidden as regards Catholic teaching. I can see, of course, that given the teaching that the force used must only be the amount necessary to protect the innocent we are sending too many convicts to their deaths...but, in the end, these men have all been convicted in open court and thus are not in the same catagory as innocent, unborn life.
As for me, I've taken a fairly complete pro-life view on this - while I want to keep the death penalty on the books as a necessary ultimate sanction for the defense of society as a whole, I would prefer that most death penalty sentences were a sentence to a very hard life behind bars (made intentionally hard - without cruelty - on our part in order to both punish and, hopefully, to make the guilty consider their crimes).

Paul,
But we still hope that their faith will be restored to them...all it takes is an act of will on their part: to understand that donations from pro-abort groups aren't worth all that much.

Pelosi the liberal looney signed onto this statement - now everyone will know that this is just a hoax.
Time for the Catholic Church to excommunicate all these idiots.
Someone send the article to the Pope!
