I have just received word that tomorrow morning, Senator Bill Frist will announce that a constitutional amendment giving Congress the power to ban the physical desecration of the American flag will receive a floor vote in the United States Senate. The vote will occur during the last week of June.
More on this issue to come...

Hi Matt! Great news and thanks for the heads up. I just posted this at my blog after I received your email. However, for some reason the trackback I sent does not show up here. Oh well, just wanted you to know that I did pass the word!

Eh, I'm not sure if Republicans should be supporting this right now. Didn't we just have a campaign defending free speech with the desecration of Muhammad?

Oh my, now all the libbies and their personal law firm, the A.C.L.U., will be on fire over "this administration" stepping all over their constitutional right to burn our own flag.
I've never understood why exactly there are people that choose to live here, and feel like they should be able to burn our flag.
That's right up there with stealing candy from a baby, kicking puppies and kittens or smacking grandma. Just a big no-no. Sicko's.

A flag burning amendment would be a terrible idea. Any fool doing such a thing would then launch a federal case. Or would the incident just be ignored? Laws that are not enforced or enforceable weaken the whole system.

This one is a bit scary. We've had McCain Feingold trampling on our rights to express ourselves, this one just opens another door!

I don't think an ammendment to ban the burning of flags will pass muster, the whole First Ammendment thing kind of gets in the way.....But, What needs to happen is an Ammendment supporting the rights of Citizens to express themselves to those burning the flags by kicking their collective asses

Is there a real problem in America with flag burning? I am not sure if they are trying to install nationalism in people are trying to do a political stunt to say they are more patriotic. As far as I am concerned all Americans are equally patriotic no matter of their political beliefs.

Another example of conservatism going down the tube. What ever happened to the idea there should be LESS government intrusion? I can't even remember the last time I heard of an American burning the flag, anyway. If some jerk does, though, he is just proving he is a jerk and we should not interfere with that.
Besides, how can a flag burning amendment NOT conflict with the First Amendment?

With all of the real issues facing America, it is not suprising at all that the empty-suit Republicans will try to distract the citizenry with this foolish Dead-On-Arrival Amendment and, of course, the red state bread and butter, a gay marriage debate.
