The More They Protest, the More Foolish They Become

I found this bit in a news story to be quite staggering:

The Roman Catholic Church, dozens of grass-roots coalitions and Spanish-language radio disc jockeys have helped fuel protests nationwide against congressional efforts to tackle illegal immigration.

One protest organizer described the effort as "the beginning of an immigration civil rights movement."

As a Catholic, I must first of all say that the US Conference of Catholic Bishops has got this quite wrong - their hearts are in the right place (ie, helping poor people), but the practical matter is that there is no desperate need for these people to break a law (namely, our immigraiton laws). It is always true that if you are starving, you may steal bread if no one will give it to you...but almost all of the illegals are not in that desperate sraights...they could stay at home and face nothing more than the poverty they've always lived in.

Away from that, though, is the concept that this is "an immigration civil rights movement". Nothing could be more absurd - but the gauntlet is being thrown down. We either stand in defense of our nation and its laws, or we become second-class citizens in our own land. The more these illegals and their foolhardy allies demonstrate, the more likely the House immigration bill (the one that makes it a felony to be in the US illegally) will eventually be signed into law.

"Do not oppress an alien; you yourselves know how it feels to be aliens, because you were aliens in Egypt." Exodus 23:9

While I understand your feelings, the illegal act of our southern brothers is merely a paperwork violation akin to driving without a license. The punishment in the new immigration measure is twice the punishment for similar violations and extremely just.

When I read the above quote from Exodus I recall how my own Catholic ancestors from Germany were mistreated here in America. Never again.

Its worse than that. These illegals believe TX, AZ, NM and CA are part of Mexico and they "DESERVE" to live there.

They deserve to be deported the first time we catch them and jail time every time after that.

We should also be fining employers $25,000 a head for every illegal they hire.

Timothy,

The protests, though, show that these illegals view us with contempt - and that is not a good thing. Just for that reason alone, we need to gain full control of the situation....our Catholic ancestors never treated America with contempt.
