"Tolerant" San Francisco

They'll tolerate anything in San Francisco....'cept maybe a bunch of Christians:

More than 25,000 evangelical Christian youth landed Friday in San Francisco for a two-day rally at AT&T Park against "the virtue terrorism" of popular culture, and they were greeted by an official city condemnation and a clutch of protesters who said their event amounted to a "fascist mega-pep rally."

"Battle Cry for a Generation" is led by a 44-year-old Concord native, Ron Luce, who wants "God's instruction book" to guide young people away from the corrupting influence of popular culture.

Luce, whose Teen Mania organization is based in Texas, kicked off a three-city "reverse rebellion" tour Friday night intended to counter a popular culture that he says glamorizes violence and sex. The $55 advance tickets for two days of musical performances and speeches were sold out, but walk-up admission was available for $199.

After stops in Detroit and Philadelphia in the next few weeks, Luce wants to unleash a "blitz" of youth pastors into the communities to do everything from work with the homeless to find new ways to bring others to Christ. He challenged youth leaders to double the size of their groups in the next year.

And then he plans to return to San Francisco next year to chart their progress.

That's bad news to Assemblyman Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, who told counterprotesters at City Hall on Friday that while such fundamentalists may be small in number, "they're loud, they're obnoxious, they're disgusting, and they should get out of San Francisco."

Wonder if Leno would say that about the burgeoning homeless population in San Francisco? Ah, you know the answer to that - to our fully engaged "progressives", everything goes...and they mean it: if you aren't entirely willing to abandon all you believe in, then you have to go.

Too bad, San Francisco - this is just a foretaste of what is to come for you. You see, while you can try to seal yourself off from Truth, it will not be denied...entrenched behind your "progressive" walls, you may feel safe from all those Christians and other believers out there...but given that you've created a spiritual wasteland, there is a growing - even if unconscious - hunger for real enlightenment, and real faith, hope and charity.

Don't fret tough; These Christians might seem alarming to you at first, but all they really want to do is tell you about themselves. Keep an open mind...you might find that it doesn't hurt a bit.

Just so you know, it's not terribly truthful to imply that fundamentalist evangelicals represent the views of all Christians.

Why do you need to have religion separate those who are more interested in efficient, minimal government? If I think you are losing it with this religion stuff, do I have to reject the entire GOP? Do you believe Christians own the GOP? I don't. If you are going to focus on what Americans have in common, it won't be religion.

First, Mr. Leno..., tear down that wall!

Second, there are a lot more pro-life Christians that have been voting Republicans into office for 33 years than there are anti-Christian biggots like Mr. Turner in the GOP.

Politics is about building coalitions. We help you with fiscal conservatism. You help us with social conservatism. If we do not form a coalition then the liberal socialist will rule the day.
