More indicators that those Mexican-flag waving demonstrators are just undermining whatever case they hoped to make:
An avalanche of immigration proposals that would cut services to undocumented workers are under consideration from the South to New England, but some of the most significant recent steps taken by state governments actually help illegal immigrants. So far this year, only one major crackdown has passed a state legislature: Georgia lawmakers last week approved what supporters claim would be the nation's toughest anti-immigrant law, limiting state benefits such as non-emergency medical care and unemployment checks to those in the country legally.
The story goes on to note how recent attempts to curb benefits to illegals have run afoul of court rulings, or governmental bodies unwilling to enforce the legislated will of the people. There is a deeply ingrained desire on the part of the governing class to pander, as we all know...and thus far the people demanding government action the loudest have been the immigrants and their advocates. That, I think, is just starting to change - there's nothing like some cretin of a demonstrator flying a Mexican flag above Old Glory to get the patriotic, American juices flowing.
It has been a trial for me to not get angry and lash out blindly - but I am incensed by the demonstrations, and if an immigration advocate like me is this upset, I can only imagine who those who took a dim view of immigration before the demonstrations are feeling.
Enough is enough - time for the immigrants to choose: be 100% American, or get the heck out and stay out.

I am fed up with this. Those people marching under the MEXICAN flag need to go back to Mexico. Illegal immigrants have no rights. That's why they are called ILLEGAL. The do not have the right to medical care (OK, except in emergencies). They do not have the right to vote. They do not have the right to a driver's licence. They do not have the right to force me to support them through my taxes!

You know Mark it's a funny thing, I support immigration but grow tired of all the false choices that crop up in this issue right or left.
While I absolutely support immigration I can't support stupid immigration and that pretty much sums up our policy on every level, yet if I say that in polite company gasps are heard then the whispering starts. "Nativist", "Racist", "Protectionist" and it's all a bunch of bull. Immigration is a privilege extended to those we feel would enhance the republic.
Yes we should welcome...those who will appreciate the privilege. I didn't see a lot of appreciation at the asshat rallies last weekend. And no matter how tough it may be for illegals (I'm a chef so I have an inkling on this) it's still usually ten times better here.
Sorry for the rant, but I'm irked.
