Math is Racist?I got this from NRO's The Corner:
VIRGINIA BEACH — The city has reached a settlement with the U.S. Justice Department to resolve allegations that it discriminated against black and Hispanic police recruits.Under a consent decree filed Monday in federal court in Norfolk, the city will change the way it scores the police entrance exam.
The Justice Department had complained that the math portion of the exam had an adverse effect on minority applicants and unfairly excluded them from being hired.
The city will offer to let 124 black and Hispanic former applicants resume the hiring process. Those recruits failed the math test between 2002 and 2005 but would have passed under the new standards.
The city also will create a $160,000 fund to compensate those applicants.
In the 27-page settlement, the Justice Department states that the city did not intentionally discriminate against blacks and Hispanics.
“The Department of Justice has alleged that the testing component disproportionately disqualified minority applicants,” Deputy City Attorney Mark Stiles said. “They don’t allege that we engaged in that conduct with the intent of discrimination, but rather that the disparate impact was found to have occurred by our simply using the test.”(emphasis added)
What actually happened? Well, between 2002 and 2005, 85% of white applicants passed the math portion...while only 59% of blacks and 66% of hispanics managed that part. So, the program now is to make passing easier...so that Virginia Beach can have the "benefit" of less well educated police...so that ten years from now the Justice Department can sue because these ignorant cops are violating the rights of the citizenry.
This has got to be the most absurd example of affirmative action/racial set-asides/political correctness I've ever seen - we need a Constitutional amendment to state, "Nothing in this Constitution shall be construed to require idiocy".
For crying out loud!

Math isn't racist. Tom DeLay added up a million dollars in his campaign chest, plus a dozen federal indictments or so and resigned like the coward he is.
Tom and his pals (W, Deadeye Dick, Rummy) seem to have lost some of their swagger, huh girlz?
God, this is a great country!

Oh give me a friggin break! This is a travesty of justice and a disservice to the community. Does that mean that every white, asian, Indian, or what have you that also didn't pass the old math exam are allowed to re-enter as well? Or is this only for the "dark people" club?
Seriously, all this racist stuff is utter BS! If you can't do a friggin a job you shouldn't be doing it. If you can't pass a qualifying test why the heck should you be allowed to work at that job? Does that mean we can start letting in athletes who couldn't pass the qualifying exams for sports teams? The Olympics?
Sheesh.

So once again instead of making ALL people rise up to higher standards we are going to lower the standards to accommidate the morons. Well I can not pass the testing to become a doctor but I WANT to be one anyway, so whose with me??? Dr Debbie, hey I am female, if it worked for McKinney it should work for me too!!Oh #@*& I forgot, I don't get any special treatment, I'm white. Soooo fed up in Ohio

Tom Delay has one indictment against him. It was trumped up and politically motivated. Tom Delay's Democratic critics are are the criminals, not tom Delay.
