More good news on the economy for everyone...
States and local governments are borrowing less for the first time in four years, the result of soaring tax collections that have created budget surpluses in 42 states. [...] State and local tax collections rose 10.2% last year to a record $1.1 trillion, according to the Census Bureau. States account for about two-thirds of that revenue and a similar share of borrowing. States require balanced budgets – but few define 'balanced,' and many use borrowed money to cover deficits. "States are in much better financial conditions than several years ago," says Robin Prunty, a government bond analyst for Standard & Poor's, a credit rating agency.Maybe Democrats will start admitting the economy is in good shape... I'd like to believe that is true.. but I'm not holding my breath.

The biggest difference between the states and our current federal government is that common sense seems more likely to prevail on the state level.
Ideas like "cut taxes and total receipts will grow" are sensibly rejected, especially as an excuse to raise spending.

That would require Democrats to look at reality, not just what they think is best for them politically.

I doubt it's much "common sense" at the federal level as it is partisan politics. It seems to me Democrats abosultely refuse to vote or pass legislation that would make the GOP look good, or that they couldn't get credit for on their scorecard themselves.
It's more of like opposing the common sense laws our party is lobbying for to give the illisuion that the goverment isn't doing well, so that they can then turn around and preach it to the masses.
Of course, they leave out the part where they fillibuster or vote against the very issues their whining about, i.e. Social Security, judicial confirmations, national defense, immigration, etc.
