I'm sorry, but when I heard about what Ann Coulter said about the New Jersey widows who lost husbands in the World Trade Center on 9/11, I have to say that some criticism she's getting is deserved. She apparently wrote in her book, "I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much." These women she's talking about may have taken their individual tragedies and used them for political means in the likes of Cindy Sheehan, but to say something like that is just beyond the pale. I do not believe that Coulter really believes what she said. No one enjoys losing a loved one... saying something like that just makes her look more unhinged.

Matt, I'm the guy who wrote the e-mail that the Anchoress quoted.
Having your husband murdered while sitting at his desk eating his morning bagel is awful. Using his death as the excuse to push your pre-existing left-wing opinions and to bash the President is shameful. Being a widow confers no immunity to criticism, especially when you wear your weeds as a sign of your moral authority. The Jersey girls are just as wrong headed now as they were on 9/10/2001. And, it's ok to note that.

Ann Coulter is a viscous narrow minded bitch. GO TO HELL ANN. You belong there.

At Least Ann Coulter has the guts to say what most conservatives won't.
Bravo, Ann.

There's nothing at all out of line about what she said. See here.

Misguided people like yourself believe you can change the mind of left-wing extremists with rational arguements. You cannot. Conservatives are baraged daily with remarks like racist, homophobe, cruel etc. These are not rational arguements, they are merely name calling to try and publicly disgrace conservative.
Ann is not trying to change liberal minds. She understands you can't. She is attempting to punish these left-wingers publically. It is time that pansie conservatives get out in the street and boo people like these women.
Ann is also preaching truth. These women were nobodies until there husbands were murdered. Now Democrats use these traitorous women as mouth pieces that are immune to ALL criticism. Their celebrities and they love it. Ann makes the point that they are not above criticism and should be roundly booed every where they go.
Notice the MSM NEVER gives equal time to the other 2000 widows. It is time left-wingers like Sheehan and these women get publicly humiliated every chance we get.

If all the Jersey girls did was lament their loss, I wouldn't be bothered. But no, they tour the country alleging that Bush caused 9/11 to kill their husbands. They should have been visiting their husbands that morning if they loved them so much.

Hahahahaha! You guys are funny.

I think her comments are mostly hyperbolic for effect. The core of her argument is that the left-wing trots out victims as mouthpieces for the liberal agenda, with the expectation that, implicitly, those spokespeople will be immunized from legitimate critique of the substance of their arguments because of their victimhood. Basically, the idiot Maureen Dowd's "absolute moral authority." In that regard, I think she is spot on.

I can't much blame her for what she said. Granted it wasn't exactly tactful but largly true. Change that statement to "I've never seen a mother enjoy her child's death so much" and we could apply it to that PEST who set up camp near Bush's ranch for so long. What a publicity stunt! (in both cases).

How would you describe these women Matt? Maybe not like Ann, but how? They weren't happy with the close to $2M that they were given. They have paraded around as if this country owes them endless sympathy. They've taken to political activism, which completely clears them of any "untouchable" status they might have had as helpless widows. I hate to sound callus, but people's husbands die unnecessarily every day. Horrible yes, but in Ann's opinion they appear to be enjoying their new status and financial stability. Sheehan too.
Look at how the media is reacting to Ann. Where were they when Kerry called our troops terrorists? Where were they when Dean said we cannot win in Iraq? Where were they with Durbin comparing us to Nazi's? Give me a break. Ann is doing exactly what she needed to do to get the point across, and all of the conservatives who are so concerned about her language are making her point for her...along with the media, who are skewering her relentlessly. Double standard? You bet.

Ann says what she has to say to sell books. End of story.

I'll tell you right up front that I am one of those crazy, commie, irrational, bleeding heart liberals that according to some comments, you want smacked around or perhaps executed. That depends on how much you agree with Ann Coulter.(Calling liberals irrational is not a rational argument. It is a logical fallacy known at attacking the person and not the argument. I don't think a rational person makes claims that "all liberals are irrational" or "all conservatives are bigots.")
I wonder what ever happened to the idea treating people who disagree with us in a civilized manner?
Ms. Coulter claimed she can not criticize these women, while doing so using many vile personal comments. Other than to sell books, why is that personal criticism necessary? Couldn't she disagree with these women on the issues without the name calling and personal attacks? That wouldn't sell books though would it?
What ever happened to the idea of "the loyal opposition?" a recognition that people with different opinions were all trying achieve the same goals but have different ideas about how to get there.
I really don't think I'm a traitor because I'm a democrat and disagree with the republicans. And I'm tired of hearing it.
Freedom of speech is one of the greatest liberties of our country. Ann Coulter has the right to say or print anything she wants. I respect her right to do so. This does not mean I have to respect her or her opinions. And no one on this thread has to respect mine and probably won't.
But I wish that Ann Coulter did not spew such hatred. I wish even more that people did not listen and agree with it. I'll continue to make my best effort not to respond in kind. Sadly, I know that some "liberals" do. They do not represent me nor any of my liberal friends.
Would anyone who truly believes Jesus' message "Love your neighbor as yourself" and "turn the other cheek" write like Ann Coulter? Even if you think that all liberals are truly evil, how about "judge not, lest ye be judged." For all the talk of Christian values, I see very few of them in actions of the people who claim to believe them.
I admire the 9/11 women and anyone else who has courage to stand up for what they believe in despite all the nasty criticism which supposedly does not exist. I don't know if I would have the courage to do it.
As for money motives, Ann Coulter is making a lot of money. Since the bible says "it is easier for a camel to pass thru the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God" no doubt Ann is giving all or a large portion of her profits to charity.
