The number of prominent Democrats urging pre-emptive action against North Korea's ICBM grows as Walter Mondale chimes in.
Former Vice President Walter Mondale says he supports a pre-emptive U.S. strike against a North Korean missile that is raising nuclear fears around the globe. These are the Democrats who can win elections because they are serious.Earlier this week North Korea announced it was preparing to test a missile that could reach United States mainland. Tensions rose further when the North Koreans put fuel into the missile, and continued to insist that a test firing was imminent.
Mondale said on WCCO-AM Friday that the United States should tell North Korea "defuel that missile. It has three boosters. Dismantle it and put it back in the sheds. Because if you're getting ready to fire this, we'll take it out."
Mondale, who's also a former U.S. ambassador to Japan, calls the North Korean missile "one of the most dangerous developments" in recent history.
"Nuclear weapons can destroy hundreds of millions of people in one strike - destroy major cities -it is the danger of our time," Mondale said. "Here's this bizarre, hermit kingdom up there, with a paranoid leader getting ready to test a missile system that can hit us. We've got to stop it."

Interesting. I heard this on the radio on my way home earlier and could hardly believe that Mondale was saying this.

Unfortunately, he also seems to represent the minority of that once-proud party.
I say "unfortunately" because I believe that healthy competition is "a good thing;" that is, when there is serious and substantive debate from serious and substantive participants.
The current make-up of the Democratic party's leadership (and most of its members) is neither.

Now and then the Dems get something right. Even a blind squirrel finds the acorn occasionally. But this doesn't mean they are worth electing.

Right. As opposed to the eagle-eyed squirrels in the GOP, like Rick Santorum, who seems to think we have found the WMD in Iraq. "Stay The Course" = "More of the Same"; "More of the Same" = FAILURE
Oh, silly me. I forgot. A school was painted in Iraq just last year! And we halfway sorta completed some health clinics! Mission Accomplished!

"These are the Democrats who can win elections"
MONDALE? Don't you even *remember* his 1988 run for President?

Mondale as a *democrat who can win elections*, as described the right-wing.
Are you guys THAT cult-indoctrinated, blinded, brainwashed, kool-aid drunk?
That just because Mondale agrees with you on one issue, you call him THAT?
My gosh, reality is far from you. Whatever else you say about Mondale, winning elections...
Not so much.
You just ignore the facts and lie to fit the words to ideology.
Had he opposed the strike, I've no doubt you would have said it's why he doesn't win.
You really are just a cult, not a rational group.

Yeah, I think we should start a war with North Korea. We got those clowns beaten in Iraq and Afghanistan and our soldiers and Marines are probably all fired up for another tour of combat duty. Any of you heroes care to join them?

The whole North Korean nuclear program and missile program is just another example of what can happen when we disengage ourselves diplomatically from the world... here we're left with only (risky) military options (this is a good read).
Unfortunately I don't see any solution to this program that is clean and will truely disfuse the crisis.

For some reason that link didn't work. Here it is again. I highly recommend reading this... it's long, but very informative of all the challenges we would face if we started military operations against North Korea. It would make Iraq look like child's play.

You're funny. And you never, never learn. Maybe try figuring out why this wasn't happening during Clinton's 8 years. And I love the quote by two guys who, by the way, aren't 1)prominent nor 2) running for election: " Diplomacy has failed". Just what is it about being included in the Axis of Evil that there isn't to like?

Correction, *1984* Presidential run. Sorry about the thinko.

And let's not forget Fritz's last election, against Senator Norm Coleman.

There is after all one thing blinder than those who will not see: people like Yasonyacky, who are so out of the loop that they're unaware that we've been finding WMD in Iraq ever since the invasion.
It's just that the MSM has been burying the news on page 57 beneath the fold, when it's been published at all.
