I imagine this won't be pretty...
The US Senate began debate on a constitutional amendment banning destruction and desecration of the US flag, a symbol so dear to Americans that many display it on their homes or on tiny lapel pins.I say this debate offers John Kerry an opportunity to really be dramatic by actually throwing away his medals this time. Not just the ribbons... but the medals themselves, the same ones he pretended to throw away but actually kept so he could roll them out when he ran for president."The flag stands for our nation but also for its values: freedom, justice, independence, equality and, ultimately, the people themselves," Senate Republican Majority Leader Bill Frist said as he opened the debate.
The measure is being pushed in response to a 1989 ruling by the US Supreme Court that said flag burning was a form of expression protected by the constitution.
