Democrats Continue To Attack Parental Rights (UPDATED)

It's really sad that the Democrats' extremist views on abortion bring them to not only support, but fight for the erosion of parents' rights.

Confidants like grandparents or ministers who help pregnant teens should be protected from prosecution under a bill headed for Senate passage that would punish anyone who takes girls across state lines to end their pregnancies, Democrats said Tuesday.

"We should not criminalize the grandparents or clergy members to whom a teen in trouble might turn for help," said Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., who plans to introduce an amendment to protect such confidants from prosecution.

Senator John Ensign (R-Nevada) said it best, "This is clearly not an issue divided on pro-life or pro-choice lines ... There is broad and consistent support to preserve the rights of parents."

But apparently some elected Democrats don't think so. According to them, the bill "would cut off an escape route for pregnant teens with abusive parents who live in the states with parental consent or notification laws." Leave it to a Democrat too look at cases of abuse or incest as abortion rights issues and not criminal issues. To them, it's always about umlimited accessed to abortion. To them, abortion is a more sacred right than free speech, freedom of religion, the right to bear arms, and any other right that is actually mentioned in the Constitution.

UPDATE: Democrats whine as the bill nears passage:

Bowing to public support for parental notification and the GOP's 55-44-1 majority, Democrats spent the day trying to carve out an exemption for confidants to whom a girl with abusive parents might turn for help. They complained that the measure is the latest in a series of bills designed chiefly to energize the party's base of conservative voters.

"Congress ought to have higher priorities than turning grandparents into criminals," said Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass.

But this is not about the base. There is overwhelming public support for the bill. This is not about "turning grandparents into criminals." It's about parental rights. Whether it is marriage or parenthood, Democrats will do anything to undermine these for the sake of their radical agenda.

UPDATED & BUMPED: The Senate passed the interstate abortion bill 65 - 34.

Fourteen Democrats and 51 Republicans voted for the bill. Four Republicans voted against it: Sens. Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island, Susan Collins of Maine, Olympia Snowe of Maine and Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., was absent.
I'm surprised Feinstein didn't show up for the vote after she was the one who introduced the amendment to specifically usurp parental rights, she would have wanted to vote against the bill.
