California Votes to Neuter Its Economy

In a breathtaking display of ignorance, California's political leaders have decided to drive businesses out of the state, drive up energy costs and reduce its economic competitiveness. These will be the ramifications of the astonishingly brain-dead decision, which reflect a blind faith in unproven junk science so zealous that the most bible-thumping evangelical would admire such devotion.

California’s political leaders announced an agreement on Wednesday that imposes the most sweeping controls on carbon dioxide emissions in the nation, putting the state at the forefront of a broad campaign to curb the man-made causes of climate change despite resistance in Washington.

The deal between the Democratic-controlled Legislature and the Republican governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, calls for a 25 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by 2020, and could establish controls on the largest industrial sectors, including utilities, oil refineries and cement plants. The state has already placed strict limits on automobile emissions, although that move is being challenged in federal court.

It's amazing that even while the signers of the Kyoto treaty have virtually all failed to live up to their obligations, these ignorant and scientifically illiterate tree-huggers could pull off such a fiasco. This is the beginning of the end of the Golden State. Risk capital will flee, free-thinkers will emigrate and all that will be left will be far-left liberals and illegal immigrants. It also puts a nail in the coffin of Schwarzenegger's pretense of being a small-government conservative; surely Ronald Reagan would have been and Milton Friedman must be sorely disappointed.

Remember when Clinton was elected? And the Republicans predicted that his economic policies would destroy the US economy? And instead those policies led to the longest and largest economic expansion in history? This reminds me of that.

I love hearing the right predict gloom and doom, because it's a sure sign that sunny skies are ahead.
