2008 GOP Primary Straw Poll - September 2006

Welcome to GOP Bloggers' third 2008 Straw Poll. Our straw poll last month tallied over 10,000 votes. This month, the poll takes on another new twist.

Like our last poll, you get to pick which candidates you find acceptable and which ones you don't and you get to choose which candidate is your first choice for the GOP nomination in 2008. New in this poll, you tell us your views on abortion and the guest worker program. How does ones views on these issues influence your vote? We shall soon see!

Like our previous polls, you can post this one on your own blog and have your readers vote in the poll directly from your blog! The code is located at the bottom of this post.

Will you consider including other Republican candidates in the poll?

Posted by: Jonathan Moore at September 12, 2006 01:12 PM

Condi Rice would be better...

I do support a guest worker program but I don't think it should be tied together with border security. I couldn't tell from the wording of the poll question whether or not it meant they had to be tied in legislation so I didn't answer it.

Abortion: I am neither "pro-choice" nor "pro-live," but rather anti-government involvement. I don't think abortion is any of the government's business. Government should not prohibit abortion, nor authorize it, and certainly should not extort money from me to pay for it. I tend to oppose any and all candidates who think the government should be involved on either side of the issue.

Why not a "dark horse" candidate like Fred Thompson?

Perhaps the new Ronald Reagan?

Fred Thompson would be my first choice if he ran.

I am neither pro-life or pro-choice, I am pro-not having the government finance abortion.

I support John Cox, none of the above candidates.

In my view, it is a toss-up between Gingrich, Tancredo and Sensenbrenner. I do not trust any senator. When someone get himself insulated in a 6 year office he starts to feel pretty invulnerable, as we saw earlier this year with the resulting S.2611 piece of terrible legislation and the apparent cohabitation of RINOs and Democrats the source.

Condi is not even on my long list!

As a blue collar Republican, I'm appalled at any talk of an amnesty or guest worker program. Cheap labor is not cheap....going soft on this issue will definitely hurt the Republican Party.

I wonder how a military candidate would do in your poll. I'd like to see Tommy Franks run for president. This country needs a General to lead!

I know Dr. Rice has said no, but so did Gen. Eisenhower. Why was she not in this poll?

Mitt Romney is my choice for President of the United States of America in 2008!

I could not help but notice the absence of the name of John Cox, whom I'm certain would beat people such as Hagel and Pataki. Please look into it. His campaign website is www.cox2008.com. Thank you.

How about adding Michael Smith?
