Not only is Kofi Annan a terrorist apologist, he seems to be obtuse.
Most leaders in the Middle East told U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan during his recent trip to the region that the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq and its aftermath were "a real disaster," Annan told reporters Wednesday...During the 1990's, America's holiday from history between the Cold War and the onslaught of Islamist terror, we had the illusion of peace and stability all the while our mortal enemies were plotting and scheming to establish their global caliphate. Beyond the fact that Saddam Hussein had documented ties to terrorist groups including Al Qaeda and that he had used unconventional weapons on more than one occasion, the invasion and his ouster were intended to upset the Middle Eastern applecart in which dictators provide the appearance of stability while actually presiding over teeming masses of disaffected subjects."Most of the leaders I spoke to felt the invasion of Iraq and its aftermath has been a real disaster for them," Annan said. "They believe it has destabilized the region."
President Bush's democracy agenda is exactly the right solution, and it will take at least a generation to see through if America has the staying power and if the hate-filled Left would realize that such fundamental change requires time to take hold. It should come as no surprise that the beneficiaries of the old order of tyranny would deem this to be a "real disaster for them." Certainly, it has already been a disaster for Saddam Hussein. The other dictators, whether they're called President, King, Emir or something else, would clearly prefer the status quo and no challenges to their absolute rule. Only for a simpleton like Annan could this be newsworthy.
