France Wilts...Again; This Time, Chirac's on Iran's Payroll

In the "dog bites man" news of the day, France (again) has demonstrated its utter spinelessness and the fact that all the jokes, barbs and insults tossed at the French for their cowardice are wholly deserved.

President Jacques Chirac has broken ranks with the US and Britain by calling for the suspension of UN Security Council action against Iran during negotiations over its nuclear programme.

In a radio interview yesterday before flying to New York for the UN General Assembly, the French President provoked a diplomatic storm by backing Iran's demand that the Security Council should halt its involvement in the nuclear dossier.

In the run-up to the Iraq invasion, France carried water for Saddam Hussein, and the revelation of Oil-for-Food kickbacks and other French acts of perfidy explain why. It's amazing that head-in-the-sand doves chant "no blood for oil" when it is the U.S. that is willing to risk oil supplies by confronting dangerous terror-sponsors while it is the likes of France who bend over backwards to appease just to save their contracts.
