I'm telling ya, the news is piling up fast and furious that the GOP better start getting worried...about what to do with continued majority status:
With the help of $15 million or so in advertising, much of it fueled by his personal fortune, Michigan GOP gubernatorial candidate Dick DeVos is in a statistical dead heat with incumbent Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm in the polls.Success for DeVos, however, may depend on keeping the spotlight on Granholm's economic record - or lack of it. She remains personally popular with a substantial majority of Michigan voters. But her reelect numbers are running below 50 percent, reflecting a widespread feeling that she hasn't achieved much of consequence despite the state's dire circumstances.
Blue State, incumbant Democratic governor, GOPer threatening to win - not exacly the formula for an anti-GOP tidal wave in the making.
Mark my words - there will be some extra shell-shocked Democrats on November 8th.

Actually, I think this may have less to do with party ID than with incumbency -- this may or may not be a bad year for Republicans, but if so it'll be more because they're the party in power. And Granholm is in power in Michigan.
As for DeVos specifically, I'm not sure it's such a good sign that after spending all that money, he only brought the race to a tie. His ads were good in the fall, but I wonder if he hasn't hit the ceiling. I still put this race in the Leans Dem column.
