Debbie Stabenow Betrayed Seniors and Working Men and Women

The Michigan Federation for Immigration Reform and Enforcement (MI-FIRE) sent out a press release yesterday informing the people of Michigan that their Senator voted to betray retired and working citizens.

While Stabenow's television ads deny that she voted for Social Security for illegal aliens, according to MI-FIRE exexutive director Chris Chojnowski,"the truth is Debbie Stabenow voted to reward illegal aliens with Social Security benefits,"

On May 18, 2006 Senator Debbie Stabenow cast the deciding vote to kill an amendment, No. 3985, to the McCain-Kennedy Amnesty Bill S.2611. That amendment would have prevented illegal aliens from collecting Social Security benefits on wages earned using fraudulent numbers. Using fraudulent numbers is a common practice among illegal aliens and is a crime.

The vote to table this Social Security protecting amendment to the amnesty bill passed 50-49. Senator Stabenow cast the deciding vote to prevent this amendment from being part of the bill. There is no question that Stabenow voted to allow illegal aliens, those who commit identity theft, to gain access to our Social Security funds.

The purpose of the amendment to S.2611, the "Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006," as stated by the Secretary of the Senate, was as follows:

"Reduce document fraud, prevent identity theft, and preserve the integrity of the Social Security system, by ensuring that persons who receive an adjustment of status under this bill are not able to receive Social Security benefits as a result of unlawful activity."

Stabenow's vote wasn't just a betrayal of people of Michigan, but of all of Americans.

Keep that in mind, and contribute to Mike Bouchard, the Republican candidate hoping to unseat Stabenow.

Come out of fantasy land, Matt. With under a week to go, Stabenow is NOT in trouble. And, I think a few other senators probably voted with her. And, I'm going to go out on a limb here, but if the amendment was pro-actively killed, then some Republicans HAD to have voted against it. Are they traitors?

The motion was tabled by a vote of 50-49. So, at least 5 Republicans had to vote for the tabling measure. Cruising the list, I find: Richard Lugar, Arlen Specter, Lindsay Graham, George Voinovich, Chuck Hagel, Mel Martinez. Moderates yes, but the list goes on.

Sam Brownback, Ted Stevens. Conservative darlings? Voted Aye.

John McCain - Supposed 'maverick', needing to rile the GOP base for '08? Voted Aye.

Mike DeWine, Lincoln Chafee - Moderate Republicans in the political fights of their lives. Voted Aye.

In fact, 10 Republican Senators crossed party lines to vote Aye. So, in effect, each of their votes was a betrayl of America, as you say. So, DeWine and Chafee should lose, right? I mean, it's following the same logic, after all. And McCain, Brownback, don't even consider them in '08. Twice as many Republicans voted Aye and Democrats voted Nay.

DeWine, Chafee, Lugar, McCain, Brownback, Voinovich, Stevens, Specter, Hagel, Martinez, and Ghraham are all disgraces to their country and states, right?

Just so you don't think I made the votes up:

Sometimes *researching* your position before you make a silly sweeping claim is good. Little things like intergrity.
