Harold Ford, Pro-Liar?

From the Tennessee GOP, via NRO's The Corner:

LAST NIGHT, ON HANNITY & COLMES, CONGRESSMAN FORD SAID HE WAS NEVER "PRO-CHOICE." YET, DURING HIS FIRST RUN FOR OFFICE, CONGRESSMAN FORD CALLED HIMSELF "PRO-CHOICE."

Congressman Ford Saying He Never Called Himself "Pro-Choice"

Congressman Ford: "No, No. I Was Not Pro-Choice At One Time." (Fox News' "Hannity & Colmes,”" 11/1/06)

Congressman Ford Saying He Is "Pro-Choice"

Congressman Ford: "[A]s It Relates To Abortion, I'm Pro-Choice. I'm Not Pro-Abortion. A Woman Has A Right To Choose Not To Have An Abortion As Much As She Has The Right To Choose To Have One." (Harold Ford, Jr. As Quoted In The Ninth U.S. House District Debate, The Commercial Appeal, October 29, 1996)

Kathy Lopez also over at NRO noted on October 31st that Ford's voting record, as revealed by the Naitonal Right to Life Committee, is 87% against the pro-life side.

I agree with Ms. Lopez when she says it would be great if this is a conversion to the pro-life position, but other than Ford's Senatorial campaign statements, we really have no indicators at all that he's become pro-life - and, meanwhile, it is clearly a lie for Ford to assert he was never pro-choice. The people of Tennessee, by strong majority pro-life, deserve to have this cleared up - Ford needs to explain fully how and when he switched to the pro-life position, precisely what he would do as a Senator in a pro-abortion Party for the life position, and just why he's asserted he was never pro-choice. One thing Tennessee doesn't need is a Senator who will merely say anything to get elected.
